Anyway not even going to bother watching the 3rd. Have a good night gents.

I stopped at 1-0, I already saw where it was going

I skipped the third, and I'm surprised at how okay I am with them losing this game, this series.  I mean I don't like it, but compared to years past...
The thing is I've expected this the entire season. When the fans can see the team isn't good enough why can't management? Same old crap, Shanahan has to go

That's part of the reason I care less, they have glaring holes so you figure they will probably lose. Also my efforts to avoid them during the regular season is probably helping.

Zee me and you are on the same page. I've been harping about them even before this season. I said it earlier this year this team has regressed. For those of you who think it's coaching issue. I'm sorry it's not just that. These guys have repeatedly shown they don't have what it takes to win in the playoffs. I can already see it now some of you saying the same sh*t as last year. I think they need more time, they'll figure it out, OV didn't win anything for how long? Stop with the bloody excuses and blow this thing up. I'm tired of coddling these clowns. All of them pack it in it seems when the going gets tough. Guys like Clark and Gilmour must just cringe watching this core. I hope the incident on the bench was the start of this core being dismantled because it's time. Stop with the excuses folks and god forbid if they roll this sh*t again next year.

I think you were more disillusioned than I was until this season. I've felt way less joy and hope for this team than I ever have in my life. It's sad to root for this organization 45+ years and get to a point where I could care less about watching the game anymore because I have no hope in the direction. I've probably faded as a fan the last 12-18 months the most.  I really can't see myself following them that closely next season, I'll probably wait for the playoffs next April and see where they're at

I don?t think this team is trash by any stretch. Change the coaching and systems and try something different. Two years is the opportunity to rejig things with a new/no Tavares/Marner contracts.

I was on team punt early this year, I thought they should gas all expiring contracts (not the core) but then Bert and Domi showed up, Keefe spread the core, gave Lily a shot and he excelled. I got excited again and was back in but Keefe has defaulted to his formula of shit. Trev made a huge mistake not replacing Keefe.

I am actually glad the core had a spat last night. It?s not working, figure it out.

At this point I'm OK with almost anything that moves this organization closer to meaningful change. I do fear though that there are now enough "built in excuses" that would provide a smokescreen allowing them to run it back for another year. You know, Matthews now (probably) out or at least not himself, Nylander missed half the series, Marner ankle probably still hindering him, McMann out...I hope they don't take the path of least resistance.

The team isn?t trash there are some good pieces. The question is do you think a new coach will get them winning when it matters most. Personally I don?t because the problem lies with the stars. They?ve had ample time to figure it out. Come playoff time it?s the same disappearing act. Time to go a new direction. Unfortunately with these stupid contracts it?s going to be tough. I would approach Mitch and ask him to waive and see what we can get for him. JT is done but unfortunately we are going to have to endure another season of him. He was good on the 3rd line and that?s where he should have stayed and off PP1. Nylander ain?t going anywhere nor Matthews. Knies, Robertson, McMann maybe Woll can stay other than that everyone else should be available.

You know what makes this so much easier? No expectations.

This was not a Stanley cup contending team day 1 of the season and it wasn?t by game 82. This is a good team with some big flaws.

You can?t win with such flaky goaltending on top of all their other flaws.

Last year they were absolutely a cup contender and that was disappointing. This year did not prove that we should be excited for their playoff hopes.

1 out of 8 teams that were down 3-1 in a playoff series in the 2023 playoffs ended up winning the round...according to my short google research.

Rounding up, that's 13% chance of taking the series...so really, not great odds, but certainly not impossible.

You would think Marchand's "it's over in 5" comment would have been bulletin board material and some motivation for this group but didn't do a damn thing. Brutal first 2 periods I didn't watch the 3rd and then I read where Keefe says he was happy with the effort. My God this idiot is absolutely clueless. You were booed by the fans what does that tell you? Tired of listening to the same comments after every lacklustre effort. Thank God he'll be gone soon.

LOL I saw a post where Zach Hyman had as many goals as the entire Leafs team after 3 games. Leafs now have 7 goals in 4 games. That ain't going to win you much.

In NHL history, 90.5% of the teams up 3-1 went on to take the series.

Probably a lot of frustrated bent forks in Leafs Nation ...

This is how I'm choosing to look at it too - I think where I let myself get caught up is I've seen flawed teams go on some long cup runs despite their deficiencies, and my hope was the Leafs could do the same.

Sammy evidently peaked too early.  He was lights out the last two months of the season, but the last two weeks into the playoffs, he's reverted to early season Sammy.

People are allowed to be pissed off with the special teams (aka coaching).

He was quite good from his return in Jan to Feb. Cooled off some through to mid March.
From mid March to mid April, he was .903 save% 3.33 GAA - below average for an NHL starter. That seems to be roughly the level he's played in the playoffs (though save% is 20 pts lower in the playoffs)

Well he wasn't lights out at the end. He struggled. I think 88 early on and then 34 took over and covered up for a lot of issues with this team over the year. You add in the timing of injuries to 74,88,34 and even 16 and it's a recipe for what we have here. Add in that Sammy, love the guy, just hasn't been good enough. He let's in way too many soft goals for a team that struggles scoring. Let's see what they bring in GM5. Could be the start of something special. I think they can still win this thing and I hope Woll is the guy to carry them.

Well...the team has often elevated its game when Matthews is out of the lineup. Of course, that is usually during the regular season.

I will be watching just to see how the rest of the group responds. Time to prove something.
