You?re the coach, dude.

I had to watch that clip as I couldn't believe he really said that. To me, that's basically the same as saying "Please Fire Me."

How long before Ovi got his CUP? Blowing it up and calling for blood too quickly has always been our downfall as fans. I'll stand by that, being guilty of it myself.

Core should stay. Coaching staff absolutely needs to change.

Moving one core player is hardly "blowing it up."

Marner really isn't an issue. If anything I'd move Tavares and name Matthews captain.

What playoffs have you been watching? Regular season stats are great but when you constantly shit the bed in the playoffs and disappear then time to move on. Matthews has shown me that at least he's willing to take a hit, give out a hit do the little things to win. He wasn't 100% that's too bad maybe Mitch wasn't either but Mitch has been a no show every year in the Playoffs. How long is enough is enough? His size compared to others doesn't help but he has shown repeatedly he isn't built for playoff hockey.
I will disregard any quotes that begins with "what playoffs have you been watching?"

So then explain to me how Marner hasn't been an issue?

He knows he?s getting the boot. Doesn?t even use the first person pronoun.

Hard when someone is biased and only tracks mistakes.

We'll be able to dissect this all summer long, but come back in the series down 3-1, miss Matthews or Nylander for 5 of the 7 games, 2-1 OT loss by the most fortuitous of (and planned) bounces in Game 7 -- I can't get myself too worked up over it.

There will be change.  I liked the extra grit that was infused.  They were a different team this year.  In the end, when your best players only take control in two of the seven games (Matthews Game 2, Nylander Game 6), and your three other best players (Tavares, Marner, Rielly) regressed or were damn near invisible, it's not going to get the job done.

Keefe's a good guy.  I actually didn't mind Treliving keeping him around this year to give him a chance to see what he can do when not attached to his buddy Dubas and can be his own thinker.  But it was the same story this year.  He has now wasted 4+ years of three of the best players in the league with absolutely nothing to show for it but one Round 1 win.  He has to go.

I'm sure they won't disappoint him and he knows it.

I want to say they finally figured it out in game 5, but like I said before, it's just too late. They can't roll it back again. But as someone posted, they may have to due to NMCs. If they do, the '25-'26 season is ours! And I think McDavid comes the year after!

Also, fuck the haters!

When you only score 12 goals in a 7 game series, you can?t expect to win, regardless of goaltending. 1 for 21 on the PP. that?s how you lose a winnable series.
PP was def an issue but so was Sammy. No soft goals, Leafs win the series and it doesn't go 7.

When you can?t reliably score two goals a night, goaltending is so far down the list of reasons you lost it?s barely worth mentioning. If you need to have your goalies allow no more than 1 goal a night, they?re not the issue.

Leafs need an upgrade on Sammy, but outside of game 1, I can?t put much blame on him. He gave the team a chance to win in every game they showed up for. They didn?t seize the opportunities.

What I see as the biggest reasons the Leafs couldn?t pull this one off:

  • Atrocious power play
  • One goal in regulation in 4 of 7 games
  • Too many bad turnovers
  • Unnecessary penalties early in the series
  • Coaching staff taking too long to adjust/not having a back up strategy
  • No show in game 4
  • Marner only showing up for one or two games
  • Unreliable depth scoring
  • Poor defensive coverage at key moments
  • Key players not playing at 100%

Everything else are things winning teams can fight through.

Nice to read some of the comments and see some are finally getting it, this tram is not right, time for major changes, at minimum, Shanahan, Keefe and at least one of the core 4 have to go,  if Tavares stays take the C off, Samsonov gone and maybe Rielly as well, Woll is a tough one, he's awesome but injury prone, I feel bad for him but we can't have a goalie that always gets hurt.
This version has gone 0-7 in game 7's, scored 2 of less goals in 13 playoff games, the PP was 1-21 and the game winner last night was just brutal.  100% unacceptable, time for pain again and blow this team up.

We all know there are other issues but goaltending is not far down that list.
Outside of GM1? What about GM3 and GM4? He was not good in either. What about last night?
Neither of those goals can go in yet somehow they do. How many soft goals did Swayman let in? ZERO.
They played good enough to win but Sammy didn't. Switch goalies and we win that series even with the crappy special teams.

The whole team didn?t show up in game 4. They scored 1 goal last night. Neither of those are on Sammy. If you need your goalie to be perfect or you don?t provide them any support, that?s not on them. Game 3, a power play goal could have completely hanged the outcome, and Samsonov still gave them a chance to win. Those ?soft goals? were much more about piss poor defensive play than anything else.

You don?t win in the playoffs with a useless power play. That?s how it?s always been. The only game they didn?t get goaltending that was good enough for them to win was game 1. Every other game, a power play goal, a stronger effort to get in Swayman?s eyes, etc., and they could have won. Samsonov may not have won them any of those games, but he didn?t lose them either. When you score 2 or fewer, the skaters are the problem.

Sorry but completely disagree on  Sammy he let in far to many soft goals the game winner last night was just brutal, way out of position  back in the crease, you have to come out and challenge the shooter or play the puck,  just horrible, and yes I get Marner and  Reilley should of had Pastrnak  and  our offence was a disaster.

If the Leafs have even average power play production - which is really not much to ask - and not if that matters. That?s the point. The goaltending was, in fact, good enough to win. The offence was not.

Blaming the goaltending is easy and lazy. The fact is, with the ineptitude of the offence in this series, even with Hasek in his prime, the Leafs were going nowhere. 12 goals in 7 games is a huge failure in execution and coaching. They represent the biggest flaws for the team in these playoffs.

It's not lazy in any way shape or form, why can't you get this!! Your goalie is the one position in hockey that can change everything, look at Bobrovsky last year without him no way Florida goes to the finals, when your team is struggling your goalie becomes your most important asset and sorry but Sammy failed miserably, but anyway, it's over now lets see what happens over the summer. Go Leafs...lol

It being that important a position is exactly what makes it a lazy excuse. The difference in goaltending in this series was that Swayman won games for Boston. Samsonov didn?t win any for the Leafs. He did give them a chance to win 3 of the 4 they lost. That?s all you can ask of your goalie. Expecting more is making excuses for poor play and deficiencies elsewhere.

An upgrade in net is required, no question, but goaltending didn?t cost them this series. Samsonov and Woll kept them in every games from game 2 on. With the talent on this roster, that?s all they should need to win a round. Teams the need to rely on their goalies to win don?t typically win championships. If that?s where the Leafs are at, the blame lies elsewhere. It?s really that simple.

The "goalie vs scoring" is really a pointless debate as it was both. If the Leafs had Swayman instead of Samsonov, they almost certainly win the series. If the Leafs had the Boston PP instead of theirs (but still had Samsonov), they almost certainly win the series.

I thought Samsonov should have played the puck and not sit parked on his goal line. The guy never looks ready.

Run it back, rinse and repeat?
