R1, G7: Bruins vs. Maple Leafs - May 4th, 8:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

I think one of the biggest weaknesses is our lack of production from the blueline.  Rielly was bad this series and we got pretty much nothing from him.  In previous years though the lack of shit from the blueline really hampers the versatility of the team, particularly on the PP.  we still haven't remotely attempted to replace Jake Muzzin

When you only score 12 goals in a 7 game series, you can?t expect to win, regardless of goaltending. 1 for 21 on the PP. that?s how you lose a winnable series.
PP was def an issue but so was Sammy. No soft goals, Leafs win the series and it doesn't go 7.

When you can?t reliably score two goals a night, goaltending is so far down the list of reasons you lost it?s barely worth mentioning. If you need to have your goalies allow no more than 1 goal a night, they?re not the issue.

Leafs need an upgrade on Sammy, but outside of game 1, I can?t put much blame on him. He gave the team a chance to win in every game they showed up for. They didn?t seize the opportunities.
We all know there are other issues but goaltending is not far down that list.
Outside of GM1? What about GM3 and GM4? He was not good in either. What about last night?
Neither of those goals can go in yet somehow they do. How many soft goals did Swayman let in? ZERO.
They played good enough to win but Sammy didn't. Switch goalies and we win that series even with the crappy special teams.

The whole team didn?t show up in game 4. They scored 1 goal last night. Neither of those are on Sammy. If you need your goalie to be perfect or you don?t provide them any support, that?s not on them. Game 3, a power play goal could have completely hanged the outcome, and Samsonov still gave them a chance to win. Those ?soft goals? were much more about piss poor defensive play than anything else.

You don?t win in the playoffs with a useless power play. That?s how it?s always been. The only game they didn?t get goaltending that was good enough for them to win was game 1. Every other game, a power play goal, a stronger effort to get in Swayman?s eyes, etc., and they could have won. Samsonov may not have won them any of those games, but he didn?t lose them either. When you score 2 or fewer, the skaters are the problem.
I said there are other issues but you think what you want.
Soft goals are on the goalie and he let in too many for the team to win. Again he is not the only issue but he was a major issue. Those goals last night can't go in. That ultimately cost them the game.

I thought Samsonov should have played the puck and not sit parked on his goal line. The guy never looks ready.

Run it back, rinse and repeat?
Yup it's truly baffling, and a perfect Leafy way to lose a game 7, play your hearts out to get to game 7, then in OT on a simple dump in Marner and Reilley don't cover Pastrnak and then Samsonov simply had to play the puck but for some bizarre reason sits back in the crease, so unbelievable it's a perfect Leaf ending...LMAO!!

Woll has the makings, but if he can't stay healthy, he's not the guy.
Do we even know what happened?

I thought in game 6 on that sequence where he made the several sprawling saves ending with the glove save he took a bit of a bump to the head. Maybe something there?

Right knee was the speculation. Who knows?  Didn't really matter now.  He'll be part of the duo going forward.

The Leafs never should have lost a series where the opposing team was trotting out Patrick Maroon on their top power play line.

It's hard to really care that much when I already wrote this team off for dead. I doubt I care as much going forward without a major shakeup to the roster.

I found Keefes post game comments infuriating. Dude is a moron. He shows zero accountability instead deflecting it onto his players. He and the rest of the coaching staff need to go, Shanahan too. Ask Marner to waive the NMC, Try and bring back Lyubushkin and even Jones if the price is right. Samsonov's confidence level is far too fickle in and out of pressure situations.

Sorry but completely disagree on  Sammy he let in far to many soft goals the game winner last night was just brutal, way out of position  back in the crease, you have to come out and challenge the shooter or play the puck,  just horrible, and yes I get Marner and  Reilley should of had Pastrnak  and  our offence was a disaster.

That is a very valid point.  In the recent interview with Bourne and Kyper, Steve Valiquette  pointed out the really drastic effect of letting a soft goal in the playoffs.  There were about 14 soft goals or so and only about 3 teams were able to overcome that and win the game.  Moreover the weak goal he allowed against Boston. (scored by Frederic I believe while Bertuzzi was getting tripped by Marchand) was really really bad.  There were about 700 shots taken during NHL games and only 3 goals went in.  And Samsonov had the 2nd worst record using goaltending stats that Valiquette utilized over the past year including expected goals,  leads squandered, games  ?stolen? etc., he said.  Samsonov was markedly slow going across the crease all season based on his data and was particularly drastically bad on 2 on 1?s.    (It was something like 9 goals scored on him out of 14 chances when the puck was passed across the zone in the slot). But again let?s not use facts to undercut his supposed value to the Leafs.

What coach's and players say in the media usually mean very little. It's all window dressing.
Fact is, it should be on the players because ultimately they were the ones that didn't perform and execute the plan. See how tight they played in the last 3 games? Where was that in the 1st 4? Keefe's biggest issue for me was being to loyal to guys. He made a great move putting JT at 3C and off PP1. Funny thing is doing that move and having 44 out worked and PP1 went on a mad tear. So what does he do? As soon as 44 gets back he puts him right back on PP1.
Anyway same old stuff. Bad goaltending, lack of PP goals, lack of offence form the back end. It will be an interesting off season. Let's see if anyone waives. I have my doubts.

A 3 year old rant that almost sounds like it was recorded today?

I'm the exact same. Had major doubts about this team all season and wasn't happy when they ran it back with this core. Something needs to happen. I can honestly say I get wound up and take each game seriously but this year I'm not going to lie and say I'm not disappointed but I'm not surprised nor have the same feeling after another 1st round exit. Kudos to them for how they played the last 3 games exactly the type of hockey that's needed come April. Keefe needs to go one because he hasn't gotten this team over the hump and secondly because of his stubbornness not to change up the PP. Instead of maybe trying Lilly back there he kept rolling out the same group with some changes due to injuries. For those saying a shot isn't needed on the PP sorry you're wrong. PP I think cost us and they should be looking seriously at acquiring a solid number 1 D man who can quarterback a PP. See what happens hopefully Pelley has seen enough. Shanahan, Keefe and Marner should be the first 3 to go.

Can't be said enough. Decided the series. Outscored 18-12 overall and 6-1 of that was on the PP. A team this offensively talented cannot have a PP this bad.

It didn?t even have to be that much more effective, either. One PP goal in game 3 could have changed the entire series. Scoring on the PP last night would have, too.

I honestly feel the exact same. I had no expectations that they?d get out of the first round against either Boston or Florida. So I can?t say I?m disappointed, if anything they met expectations.

This was a flawed team game 1 of season and this was a flawed team game 7 of round 1.

Honestly I don?t even care what they do with the roster, other than Matthews and Nylander, I don?t give a shit.

It's kind of hilarious that so many fans are in the same mind set. Ready for some sort of shakeup, not really mad about losing this season. I was checked out so early it's not even funny

Hopefully management thinks the same that some changes are needed both on and off the ice.
