Random rumours

It's going to be one of those summers . . . a lot of rumours and, my guess, very little that actually comes to fruition.

i was thinking the same thing...in fact i saw that dreger had tweeted how he was surprised at how little movement there has been already with the amount of talking going on.

It's really not all the surprising when you really think about it, though. The cap is set to drop $6M. Right now, you have a situation where there are a lot of sellers and not that many buyers. Tough to get a deal done when both sides are looking to shed salary.

its still fun to see the B's go off the deep end today...and the canucks do a 180 on their goaltenders...and see the pens sweating it out with letang...and the lightning having to buy out their captain, not to mention the buyouts in philly.

I'm sure I'm missing some of the other circus acts in the nhl right now but it's nice to see the leafs sitting pretty right now.

@RenLavoieRDS: Can Daniel Aldredsson play in another city than Ottawa next season ? I've been told yes, but his priority is to play for the Senators. #RDS

Really Renaud? Off the the ridiculous things that have rumoured...

Kevin Paul Dupont ‏ of the Boston Globe & Mail has also said on twitter that the Bruins should target Alfy. I can understand maybe if Ottawa had cap issues, but they're in a great position there. Melynk will give him whatever he wants.

It's probably unwise to read anything in to the fact that Seguin only had 1 goal in the playoffs.  It's a bit of a statistical fluke that he had 1.43% shooting percentage over a 20-game stretch.  He still had 70 shots on goal, which is a good rate and shows good all-around skills.  Ovechkin, Kessel, Stamkos even (I believe without checking) have had 20-game stretches where they've scored just 1 or 2 goals.

If Boston was going to throw him away, I'd pick him up.

I'll love it if Gillis ends up having to trade Schneider.  That would be even better than buying out Bobbolui.

trading Schneider instead of Luongo has seemed like the right move for quite a while now ... They should have done that a while ago before alienating Lou.

Gillis has screwed the pooch so badly in Vancouver, yet he remains Canucks GM. It's really quite remarkable he hasn't gotten canned. So glad the proposed deal for Luo with the Leafs came back and slapped him in the face. I'm sure he thought he had Nonis over a barrel for a while there and was tightening the screws. Good on him.

@TSNBobMcKenzie

Not 100 per cent yet but looks like Nathan Horton will NOT be back with BOS. B's talking trade and Tyler Seguin's name has been discussed.

That's interesting. Why would they entertain a Seguin trade I wonder?

Cause he's a major league scumbag!

Can't speak to their exact cap situation, but expensive (or relatively expensive) deals to Chara, Lucic, Krejci, Marchand and Bergeron have left relatively close to the cap (5M to spend) with 5 or so players to sign.

They don't have to move him necessarily (or anyone for that matter), but Bergeron will need more money next year and Rask is an RFA who should command 4-6M I'd think. If they fill out the roster with prospects or minimum guys they'll lose a lot of their depth. Seguin is the youngest asset they have (probably their most valuable as well), and he's due 5.75M starting next year. He did have a pretty decent regular season, but maybe they see him as the most superfluous asset?

Another case of too much money, too soon methinks.

I'd be willing to trade this year's 2nd round pick for Sequin. :)

On a serious note though, I'd be willing to move Gardiner or Rielly in a package for him (depending on if we had to add anything).

He's young, not too expensive all things considered (especially compared to Grabbo) and he fills a need on our roster.

I think Rielly and Gardiner are a bit redundant, and Grabbo would be a buyout candidate, freeing up cap space to fill another need.

There's little chance the two teams would ever deal the same player (I know it was originally just a pick) twice, but I think it would be smart asset management on the part of the Leafs (We also have Finn, Percy and Blacker who could have offensive sides to their NHL games, if they make it).

I disagree with the Gardiner part.  And we, at this point, don't have answers that are merely question marks on Percy, Finn, Blacker and Reilly.

Yes, it would benefit the Leafs to land a Seguin in more ways than one, since it'll give the Leafs offence a nice boost having Tyler there.

Now TSN is saying that Columbus may be entertaining trading Bobrovsky, which is a little baffling.

Seriously... is there truth to this, or is TSN just trying to draw attention and page hits?

Well, he wants 6 million apparently, but is that enough to throw in the towel, when you have been trying to solidify that position for a few years? He may not be worth 6 million this season, but if he can keep the level of play he showed in last years shortened season, he most definitely would be worth that.

Hard to say, but he is rumoured to be being offered to teams, so it seems they don't want to negotiate with him, if they are actively trying to trade him. Unless it's a tactic...
