I am a bit suspicious of MHL/KHL goaltending since the offensive tendencies of the league favour potshots from afar, but Akhtyamov doesn't look shabby here.
Reaction saves, looks quick. I love it.
So when he takes over the net in the next 3 years, so we call him;  AK-TIM-A-MOV?

But also this :(

Edit: per his Instagram, left shoulder injury

Translating this tweet says its a broken collarbone.

PPP 25. William Villeneuve

I don't think I would've had him this high, but it's also just a pretty big smear of maybes from 16-36; high potential ceiling, very low floor due to current skating and defensive instincts (somewhat none), playing on a team that sort of just leans into outscoring opponents.

TLN 20. Kristians Rubins
The next Justin Holl

A reply to that tweet clarifies that Kazan also signed one of the top KHL goalies as a free agent so they'll still have two guys ahead of both those prospects on the depth chart.

PPP 24. Brennan Menell

Hello replacement Calle Rosen, who is only going to get NHL time if something catastrophic happens to the top 2 RDs. Great fit for a sheltered offensive third pair, but those don't exist.

TLN 19. Joseph Woll

Probably not good that our two top goalie prospects (via draft) have had an unfortunate spate of injuries. Expect him to get a long look with the Marlies where it is hopefully more stable than the past two seasons have been (for everyone).

PPP 23. Artur Akhtyamov

?\_(?)_/?

TLN 18. Ty Voit

The Leafs have accrued a lot of this player template over the past 3 drafts: undersized playmakers, but making it work with above average vision/gamethink/puck skills. Semyon Der Arguchintsev, Mikhail Abramov, Nick Abruzzese, Joe Miller, (to a lesser extent) Nick Robertson, and really the internal archetype to strive for: Mitch Marner. Abramov and Abruzzese have added heavier shots to their game since being drafted (Robertson and Miller already have'em).

MLHS/Kevin Papetti splashed out their top ten prospects earlier this week. If you just want to see the list, it's on post 1.

PPP 22. Filip Kral

Meh. Still quite young (22) and will get lots of opportunity to take a prime offensive role on the Marlies this season.

TLN 17. Pontus Holmberg

Has had quite the rise this past couple of seasons, going from bottom-sixer to top-six threat in the SHL. Was one of those very rare trade ups by the Dubas group (for an overager at that). I get pseudo-Connor Brown vibes as a reliable plug and play winger that fits anywhere on the lineup.

The Connor Brown that was playing in the NHL at 22 years old and scored 20 goals in his first full season a year later?

Just vibes, man
Holmberg | Brown

He has the knack for getting into the right spot at the right time; not really a puck carrier, but a solid complement with some grease and occasional finesse finish. Yeah, he's not as good as Brown had shown at this point, but stylistically, there's a lot of overlap. Nothing stands out skills-wise at an elite level, but works hard and gets to the right spots at the right time to cash chances.

Current statistics as of 2021-05-29

As per hockeyDB stats above, the guy has never scored in the double digits.

I don't know, man...

EDIT: And by the way, spending time debating a fringe AHL prospect is pretty indicative of how bored I am.

I get what you're saying, Frank.

I'm just saying his playstyle looks like Connor Brown's. By definition, a complementary player's production is going to be highly dependent on his linemates' capabilities. Would you prefer an Andreas Johnsson comparison? Johnny has a better shot, but they were clearly identified by the same scout.

I think Holmberg gets an AHL look towards the end of the season after the SHL finishes up.

Maybe he's the next Carter Verhaeghe...who incidentally just signed an extension for $4.1m X 3.

Sort of a case in point for finding the right fit/playstyle for a player can really help them reach their potential (Marchessault, Mangiapane).

For the Leafs' purposes, we only need some of these depth pieces to get hot for like 1-2 seasons in their primes (24-26) and then trade them at upsized prices or as problem solver moves (Connor Brown, Andreas Johnsson, Kasperi Kapanen, Trevor Moore). If they excel earlier, swap them into the core if that's what their play warrants (Sandin, hopefully).

PPP 21. Pavel Gogolev

This guy wasn?t even going to be on the eligibility list but scored himself an ELC recently after a very productive late season run with a moribund Marlies squad. Skating will need to be refined to leverage his substantial puck skills and finish at NHL speeds and space confines.

TLN 16. Semyon Der-Arguchintsev

Ah, Gogolev's old running mate coming up through the junior ranks. I like Semyon Der-Arguchintsev quite a bit, but there's a lot that has to go right in his development and in the NHL team's playstyle (and supporting cast) to get this guy an NHL run in Toronto. Huge spikes in goals for any of his linemates with a half decent shot or nose for the net, so at the very least he's going to help a lot of Toronto prospects find success and confidence at the AHL level. If Adam Brooks makes a breakthrough, that'd be the template to follow.
