Report: Shea Weber agrees to offer sheet with PHI (Dreger on twitter)

If you wish to argue that goodwill between GMs is of little value, feel free to do so, although truly neither of us can quantify its value.  But Burke clearly feels it is of significant value, and I think it is reasonable for him to feel that way.

My argument wouldn't be that goodwill between GMs is of little value. It'd be that taking such personal offense to another team engaging in this sort of action is not a reasonable reaction and that most GM's throughout sports manage to have other teams try to sign their players without challenging them to throw-downs in a barn.

I think it's safe to say that any deal between Nashville and Philadelphia would require more than one conversation, given the complexity of the deal and any potential deal.

Sort of makes me wonder, however, about the value of this deal from Philadelphia's perspective.  Minnesota's over-the-top (IMO) signing of Suter was based on financial respurces only.  Weber's massive deal will carry with it a significant player / asset cost.  I can't help but feel Braydon Schenn, Coburn, and Matt Read, draft picks, etc. will be what Poile wants in return.

You make it sound like barn throw-downs aren't awesome.

This waiting is killing me.  What do you guys think the Flyers will lose?  I think Read & Mezaros, & the Flyers get 2 picks back.  If they have to throw in Voracek, then fine...just get it done.  I wouldn't give them Voracek & Coburn.

Voracek/Read and Meszaros would be my guess.

Weber. Holmgrem won't give Poile enough for him to not match.

And, for what it's worth, based on the stories making the rounds, your offers are nowhere close. Poile has apparently been asking for both Schenns or Couturier+.

I have no idea what will happen but giving up Couturier+ as a part of a deal for Weber seems eminently reasonable.  4 picks in the 20s might not give you anything more than a couple of 3rd liners and some AHL fodder.

Couturier may round in to a great 2nd line center or a first line center but there is no way he rounds in to Crosby, and that's pretty much the only way Nashville actually comes away with the most valuable player.

Even if it's awkward, good for the Pred's, at least now if he is going to/ wants to be traded, they can get exactly what they want in the deal. I mean, he is probably one of, if not the best defenseman in the game right now and that should bring a whole bunch back in any trade.

A nice bonus for the Preds is no NTC as these are not permitted in offer sheets.  If Weber shows he does not want to stay in Nash at least the Preds will be driving the trade bus in the future.

Not to mention that Weber value increases if you get to trade him with only 83 million on his deal left.

That's not entirely true. Like any other contract given to an RFA, there can't be any movement restrictions in the contract for the seasons the player would still qualify for RFA status (in this case, the one season they're not allowed to trade him), but, otherwise, they still can be part of these contracts, just like any other contract. There's absolutely nothing in the sections of the CBA relating to offer sheets or movement restriction clauses that prevent them being included in the UFA years of offer sheets.

Now, whether or not there is one in Weber's deal is unclear - though, I imagine there is in some form.

Weber's agent stated earlier that there was no NTC/NMC in the contract, but that it would be discussed after Nashville's decision came in. I can't look at it right now, but there's something in the CBA that states an offer sheet can only include the salary amd length in them, and that other aspects can be added in once the contract is finalized.

I wonder what would happen of they couldn't come to an agreement on that.

But if they can't trade him for a calendar year, $27 mil is a lot to swallow to wait and find out what you can get for him, fingers crossed it's a LOT more than four 1st round picks.  It very well could be more, but $27 mil more?  I not so sure.
