Rick Nash potentially available

Pretending for a moment that A) the Leafs trade for Nash and Grabovski stays put and B) Nash plays on a line with him.... Does Grabovski become the best center Nash has played with in his NHL career? Note: I'm not counting Carter because well, we havent's seen a lot of Carter this year and there hasn't been much opportunity for these two to Gel (if they'll wind up gelling at all.) I know I'm getting light years ahead but if Carter is a career 75 pt. guy, does Grabo have the skills to turn him in to a 35/40 goal, 75 pt guy?

Outside of a very brief stint a few years ago when Derek Brassard looked like the real deal, yes Grabbo would pretty much be the best/most skilled.  And yes I think he would easily regain 75-80 pt form.

I would tend to agree.... but having said that.... it all aint worth a hilla beans right now... ;)

That's what I'm thinking too... Really, while not a slam dunk, there's a strong chance you'd be getting a Nash who some might feel would be more deserving of his cap hit.

#bluejackets GM Howson was given a list of #NHL teams Rick Nash would potentially lift his n/m clause to go. Believed 2 be a very short list

You know, it wouldn't surprise me at all if we weren't on that list anyway.  :-\

I can't imagine, after trading 1st rounders and top prosepcts, that Columbus would want to settle for a package for Nash centering around players of the Kadri, Kulemin, Aulie calibre, not to mention mid level 1st round picks.
Which leads me to wonder- would Kessel's name ever enter the picture? What if it was a scenerio wherein Carter would come over with Nash? I think an argument can be made that Kessel alone has more value right now than Nash.. Would anyone do a trade involving Kessel that brought back Nash or Nash+?

I imagine the Leafs would be on the list, whether or not we could afford or want him is another matter altogether.

Anyhoo, I'm not sure the jackets jump on this rumoured deal with the rags... I'd have to think that they might seek a legit goaltender in the deal (if there is one.) The 'nucks perhaps for Schneider, Hodgson, and Raymond? Perhaps the Bruins for Rask, and/or Krejci/Lucic and a prospect?

*bump*

... Or Bernier, plus, plus...

FWIW...

According to him, it's Bernier, Penner, Hunter and a pick. So, nowhere close to enough for Howson to even consider presenting it to ownership for approval.

I wouldn't think so either.

Eklund is saying it's Penner, Hunter, Bernier, and a pick. That'd be a bigger fleecing than the Phaneuf deal.

Which is, of course, how we know there's absolutely no truth to it.

Seriously. Nash isn't going to be moved today. The market for him is really just beginning to form. Up until a few days ago, according to Bob McKenzie, Columbus was saying he was completely unavailable. Heck, I'll go as far as to say that he won't be dealt before the deadline. This could be the biggest move of Scott Howson's career - it could make or break him as an NHL executive going forward. He's not going to rush the process. He's going to take as much time as he feels he has to mull over all the offers, try to negotiate for better returns and consider whether or not he actually has something he can present to Blue Jackets' ownership for approval with risking walking out with a pink slip. If Nash gets moved (and, I still say that's a big if), it almost certainly won't be until the draft.

I agree with you for the most part Busta, but there is that Holmgren factor, he traded Richards and Carter without many knowing they where both realistically available for any considerable period of time, Howson could do the same here potentially.

I doubt he will though.

Yeah, I can't disagree with that. I mean, or Nash to be moved in the next 13 days, the return has to just humongo.

Well, that was a slightly different scenario. I mean, we don't really know how long they been having discussions with teams about Richards and Carter, we just have an idea of how things went down on the day the moves were made. For all we know, they could have been planting the seeds to those deals for weeks. In this case, we have on pretty good authority that the Blue Jackets haven't been entertaining discussions on Nash. Secondly, that was in the summer, when it's always easier to move a big contract - the cap is less restrictive (the 10% summer overage, contracts days from expiring, no worries about upsetting chemistry, etc), whereas, now we're talking mid-season. If for no other reason, the timing of the Philly deals and what's going on with Nash make them very different situations.

Of course. Outside of the unlikely event of someone presenting Columbus with a deal they simply cannot refuse, I just don't see anything getting done in the next 2 weeks. I just don't see the desire or necessity to do so from the Blue Jackets' side of things.
