Rick Nash potentially available

Schenn or Gardiner
Kadri or Colborne
MacArthur or Kulemin
1st
Connolly

The general thinking appears to be that that's the sort of package it would take to land Nash. Coming from somebody who doesn't really think the world of any of those assets, it's pretty darn steep.

Aulie,Kadri,Connelly,MacArthur with no picks.  Two players for now and two futures.I would do this today.

edit-I would do it now!!!

Would anyone do Kessel + for Nash.

CBJ gets slightly cheaper but younger allstar.  TML get a 1st line winger with more size albeit older and more expensive but with a longer contract.

Why the heck would WE do that?

So trade one potential 30-40 goal guy for another potential 30-40 goal guy?

We have the one thats 3-4 years younger... the one with $2.5M less on the cap... AND we have to give up MORE to acquire Nash?

It's non sensical.

You deal for Nash because you want to have 2 potential 40 goal guys, not just 1.
Hmmm.  It would be nice to deal for Nash and give up nothing in return.  I don't believe that Toronto has enough blue chip assets to net Nash (Kadri, Schenn, Aulie, and Colborne might get you some consideration but I doubt it.)  So for me it became who would I rather have Nash or Kessel.  The current makeup of the leafs reminds me of a montreal team, smallish fast forwards except our forwards don't like to take a hit which makes us a weaker version of a montreal team and very one dimensional.  I think Kessel is much more of a sniper than Nash and has more speed but Nash will go in the corners.  I think it would make our team much stronger if it had two first line players who would go into the corners.  Right now kessel doesn't and Bozak tries to avoid it.  Without some big guys with skill or smaller fearless guys(like Grabbo) we are very much a one dimensional (end to end type game) team.  We need to figure out how to win some dump in plays but this team won't take a hit.  IMO opinion the leafs would be further ahead with Nash than Kessel.  The only question is what would it take to get Nash using Kessel as one of the pieces.  The + may have to be our 1st rounder and schenn or gunnarson.  I don't think we are in the running without Kessel being one of the pieces.

You're kidding right?  Last time I checked, Kessel was 4th in points and Nash is 69th.  Sure Nash is having an off year, but Kessel has come into his own.  First off, I wouldn't be trading Kessel, but if I had to, it would be Nash + coming back for Kessel.

^^^^Agree with this^^^^ No way I make a trade of Nash for Kessel...They need to sweeten the pot thanks. 7.8 isn't a friendly cap hit for what he does either.

Phil is better, cheaper, and younger with still more upside. CBJ would win it hands down.

I'm not sure why this thread has gone on for 6 pages. Nash has stated for years that he will never play for the Leafs.

Hmm...please provide proof.  I've never heard that before except from some no-name tweeter or some forum post stating this claim.

Yeah. This claim gets thrown around a lot, but, no one has provided any actual quotes from legitimate sources yet.

With a #1RW already on the team, can't see giving up Gardiner for a 2nd line player with a huge burden of a contract.

I would be very reluctant to give up Gardiner. He has far more upside than Schenn or Aulie, both fine players/prospects. But Gardiner, no way.

Due to cap reasons (to accomodate Nash), it has to be Schenn. Throw in Kulemin/MacArthur plus pick?

Anyway Burke would have to move someone else to get under the cap. I would love get rid of Connolly (to make room for Colborne), but I am not sure he is attractive asset. The same applies for Komisarek.

So Cox confirmed Toronto is one of the teams Nash would accept a trade to?

Mildly more interesting but trading Gardiner to get him is a pretty big question to me.

Oh I say I say
Have you seen Nash's pay
in regards to his game
he is one of fame
Internationally, been to the mountains' peak
The playoffs in the NHL is all he seeks
to land such a star would be great
but only for the right team, mate
Leafs; live to see another day
Have you seen Nash's pay?

Sportsnet last night also stated Toronto is on Nash's short list.  Who knows how true that is or not.  It sure turned my crank, though  8).  Thinking about a top 6 whose foundation is Kessel, Nash, Lupul and Grabovski (fingers crossed) for the enxt 4-5 years is pretty darn exciting.

For me, Gardiner is off the table, too.

Well done, sir!

There is no doubt in my mind that Nash will deliver. Sign him, then look for more pieces. In the words of someone that brought the words of Wilson forward. Let's Go!!! (whoever that was. nice one!  ;) )

If Toronto wants Nash I think he has to be included. Schenn has been a multiple healthy scratch and Blacker, while similar in style, is a little more raw/untested. Even then, I would think CLB would want a current top 6 forward (among other assets) and it's arguable whether they think Kulemin satisfies that criteria. My guess is Nash goes somewhere like Philly or LA. Really don't see TOR having what CLB wants.

The blogger for Columbus on Hockeybuzz has a list of what Toronto might have to give up for Nash. As much as I like Nash; if this guy's list is close to accurate then it is far too much to give up.

I'd give up the whole 2nd line to get this guy.  He's a thoroughbred that doesn't come along very often and will be very effective for at least five excellent years in B&W.
