Rick Nash to NYR

TSNBobMcKenzie: Artem Anisimov is the 4th piece in the Rick Nash deal.

That's a good chunk of the Rangers' depth down the middle gone.

That's...not that bad. Erixon's a good prospect but other than that...if that other piece isn't Krieder or McDonagh then that's a big time win.

I am a bit shocked. CBJ held on for that long and this is what they got? They lost the waiting game.

Wow. That's not an insignificant cost but...the Rangers didn't include anyone in their top 6, none of their top 4 defensemen or their better prospects.

It's not the massive haul they were hoping for, but, 2 good top 6 centres, a top defensive prospect and a 1st round pick is a pretty good return for Nash when you take all the factors into account.

Agreed.  I was expecting a ransom and they missed out on Stepan, Kreider and McDonagh.

Wouldn't surprise me if the deal the Rangers offered at the deadline was better than this.

The Rangers top 6 next year can be:

Hagelin-Richards-Gaborik
Nash-Stepan-Callahan

That's pretty good.

I'd say Erixon was one of their better prospects. A strong argument could be made he was their second best prospect, only behind Kreider.

Calling either Dubinsky or Ansimov a top 6 centre is mildly misleading. They're both good players who could be top 6 centres but realistically they wouldn't be that for the NYR.

Dubinsky has an off year in 11/12, but, he had a pair of 20+ goal seasons before that. He's a top 6 centre on 90% of the teams in the league. Anisimov is a question mark, sure, but he definitely has the skill to be a top 6 guy.

A very strong argument could be made that he was their second most NHL ready prospect behind Kreider, yes, but best? Even if you want to say that for the sake of argument with Staal-Del Zotto-Girardi-McDonagh as the top 4 he was going to be a bottom pairing guy next year and for years to come.

Sure, but that speaks more to the Rangers depth in terms of quality NHL calibre defencemen than it does to Erixon as a prospect. He was still one of their best prospects.

looks like they got nothing substantial in return for Nash.

As I said before - 2 guys who can be top 6 centres, a top defensive prospect and a 1st round pick. That's pretty substantial. They weren't going to get another All Star in return. Trades very rarely play out that way.

Yeah, that's technically true. He had 20 and 24 goal seasons on the team's top line shotgunning Callahan and Gaborik. I think there's a very good reason he slid down the depth though.

That's what I mean though. Having the skill to be something is a far cry from being that thing.

The guys the Rangers dealt, for the most part, were surplus.

I kinda agree with Cox;

Damien Cox ‏@DamoSpin

And, after months of dithering, Blue Jackets make a crap deal for Nash. Go for volume rather than quality. Dumb
