Chris said:Alright...yeah, the last 2 games were 2 of the worst teams in the league but the Leafs took care of business. No playing down to the opponent and either game could easily have been a much larger margin of victory. Good signs for this group.

But then, would Nylander have had the same season without the ultimate carrot of a mega contract dangling in front of him...we'll never know!
The other night he said he's not talking about it....me thinks a deal is pretty closeherman said:Willy at the beginning of training camp: not going to talk about the contract

In terms of winning a Cup, Brownscombe is probably right. In terms of night-in/night-out entertainment value, overpaying Nylander is worth it. As for me, I spend a ridiculous amount of time and effort to watch as many games as I can, and the reason I do it is because every one is the chance to see something really chortle-out-loud fun. Hockey is an escape, and I want to have fun. Sure, I want them to win a Cup. But if the cost is playing like the 1990s Devils, I'll burn my eyes out with a red-hot poker before I watch that every game.
Watching 34/16/91/88 is pure, flat-out fun (most nights).

Next year might be a little tight but JT's coming off the books after next season and will take a huge discount or be gone.
Thats the thing...would love to see them win but in the grand scheme it won't make my summer any better. What do we actually get by them winning? Nothing. Enjoy it for what it is...entertainment.azzurri63 said:Guilt Trip said:He's a lot of player. Personally I don't care anymore what any of them make. Leafs screwed up if they could have gotten him signed sooner. When rumours started and maybe they were just that Leafs were offering just under 10 willy wanted over 10 and the numbers just kept going up. When I mentioned 11 you said he wouldn't get that because of his defence and now we are talking 11.5. Not going to argue with you GT we are witnessing some greatness but in the end it's the playoffs that matter and if there isn't any gains this year we'll be talking about the same thing come summer.

Essentially the Leafs are, after next year, probably running the same cap structure except Tavares and Nylander are flipped in terms of value.
