so is Burke finished..

Yes, but Blake is an NHL-calibre player. I don't think just flat out burying him in the minors is something Burke would do.

Well, they've done it with Finger and you could argue he's fringe-y NHL in a pretty similar way to Blake right now.

Either way, I'm not saying it's something they would have wanted to do just that probably would have been the best thing in a "how do we make the hockey team better" kind of sense.

Also, just because TML have oodles of money, doesn't mean they happily pay millions of dollars to minor league players.

Well, again, I'm not saying they'd have been thrilled about it. But, that said, you'd have to weigh what paying Blake's salary would have meant vs. the potential rewards of signing a goalie who could have made the team competitive last year.

And, that said, it's not like they were pressed up against the cap last year, even with Giguere's salary(I think).

Well well well it seems burke is jumping early to get some parts. faceoff issues are now gone.

I wouldn't say they're gone, but Steckel should help on the fourth line.

Did there used to be a thread around that captured all the Burke media? I looked and could not find one.

Yes. I just tried it again with Chrome & Internet Explorer.  Some might feel seeing Melissa Grelo is worth getting it working. ;)

Ah thanks, I was using firefox, IE worked just fine. For a brief second I wondered if my browser only liked saline... :)

Burke interviews are getting old, no matter what question you ask it is all the same talking points.  The one thing I want to hear from him is why Komisarek warrants any ice time?

Yeah! Where's the fiery blowhard that was going to tear the T.O. media a new one?

If Burke is going to do more dealing then the week between game 2 and game 3 seems like a good time. He will have players returning form suspension and injury. He has his newly-acquired defenseman in the pressbox and he is up to the salary cap. Some moves have to be made.

OK, I know I have been out of the loop for awhile, but I have spent most of the day reading articles, listening to interviews and general shenaniganns to avoid work.

Overall, I am not impressed with this forward core, I don't see any significant improvement.  3 full years for Burke I still see a lack of offensive explosion.  Seems like a lack luster group.

Heres hoping they are better than I think they are.  Jay Rosehill starting on opening night, even with the injuries and suspension, just screams poor hockey team to me.

Gunnarson on the first pairing, was he that impressive in camp?  I was real optimistic during the summer, but for some reason that optimism escapes me today.

A few things jumped out from that interview with Burke. He mentioned the concept of a player being overpaid and said he should take the blame for that, somewhat in reference to Kessel.

He also called Bozak a 'fine' hockey player, fwiw.

He noted Kadri last year was dangerous both ways but said he was more dangerous one way this year in camp, not really in a favourable manner either.

Avery 'not a fit'. :)

Does last night help answer your question. ;D

Komisarek will never (ever) be worth his contract but whatever value he's able to bring, I'll obviously take.

His play impressed me last night and until it don't on a constant basis i will be content with him.

Hey, I gave a props to him in the GDT this morning. No question he looks to be turning the corner... Let's hope he doesn't turn back.

I saw that and so did I, but you'd have to read back a bit. I thought he was on a mission last night and seems to have the mind-set that he's going to change the perception of him in Toronto this season.

I'd be happy if he wasn't noticed at all... Which would also be a good thing.

I don't mind noticing him the way we did last night. He was clearing the net with authority and hitting pretty hard as well. I think he's going to be good for Gardiner also and he talks like he is taking the young kid under his wing, maybe a bit. Gardiner could certainly learn a few things from Komi, maybe about the defensive side of things and positioning ect...
