Steckel traded to ANA

I remember pre-lockout there was a site that tracked all teams' draft picks for the coming years.  Which ones they own, traded, etc.

There still a site like that?

He is not effective on the faceoffs without being able to cheat with his hands, he was also painfully slow.

He was a decent bottom line player at best and I'm certain we have better players already on the team and with the Marlies.

If his skating was better he'd be a good bottom six guy because he seemed able to read the game pretty well, that's why he was somewhat effective on the PK.

Lasch is probably hoped to replace Deschamps offensive numbers from last season with the Marlies and the 7th is better than losing him for free on waivers.

Will Lasch even come to NA?

He appears to be playing in the SEL right now.

True, perhaps next year if he still has a contract.

I heard mention of this, that the new faceoff rules hurt Steckel's ability on the draws.  He used to be an automatic winning draws in our own end late in the game, but then this season when I saw him out there he was not effective at all.  Best of luck to him, but I'm not losing any sleep over this move, he's a role player who plays under 10 minutes a game.

Even if McClement made him redundant, I'd rather have a redundancy like that on the 4th line than McLaren and Orr.

It's apparent that's not going to happen, I think we'd all rather that, so Steckel was the odd man out.

I'm surprised anyone is upset he is gone. We all know someone had to go to open up a spot for Lupul.. No way they dump Orr or McLaren with Carlyles coaching style.. They got something for a guy who sat out a bunch of games and when he played played very little. Also he was a terribly slow skater..He probably would have been waived to make room for Lupul anyway.. No loss whatsoever. McClement plays Steckels role much better than Dave did as a LEaf

Not me! I actually like what McLaren brings to the team in limited minutes and Orr, well he's not that bad this year. This is a minor move, none of these guys will ultimately decide whether this team makes the playoffs or not.

Now the guy this trade makes room for in the lineup? He may have a say in that... that's what I'm excited about.

Question is with the latest moves....is Nonis preparing for a bigger deal or not!?

We gave away Steckel for nothing. Lasch is a small journeyman in Europe and well, we got the seventh round pick.

Agreed.  Terrible trade.  Decent defensively and one of the best faceoff guys in the league.  Fail, Nonis.

7th round pick is better than losing him on waivers, with a healthy team the 4th line is McClement, Komarov and Orr/McLaren so he wasn't playing anyway, he hardly played with both Lupul and Frattin out.  Thinking you would get more is ludicrous and keeping him when we have way better and younger options on the farm is also not practical.  I would have tried to get a 5th which is still worse than the 4th we gave up for him but oh well, not losing sleep over it and obviously Nonis had little time with Lupul likely to be activated for Saturdays game even.  Fact remains Steckel has regressed in the faceoff dept and he isn't worth the fourth pick anymore.

And he had 2 years left on his contract vs. being a pending UFA now.

So true, never thought of that, we are lucky we got what we did.  Lasch is an absolute non-asset though.

Wait until Eakins gets a hold of him and turns him into the next Dino Ciccarelli.

Well something had to give...and you know it wasn't going to
be Orr or our AHL D men. I'm ok with the fact that Nonis got anything
for clearing a roster spot.
