Interesting things in the works in Tankville tonight!  A pair of Carolina teams have moved 2 points up on the Leafs, pulling a terrible Arizona team along in their wake.  With Edmonton being relegated to the ECHL, Toronto is now sitting in the 29 spot with a pretty good chance of drafting Eichel.

In other news, riots in the streets of Toronto continue after Carolina was awarded a second NHL team.

Carolina is pulling out all the stops to get McDavid.

Arizona was up 1-0 against Pittsburgh midway through the 2nd period last night. Mike Smith, the Coyotes Tank Captain, made sure to fix that:

They ended up losing 3-1.

For all the talk of the Leafs being awful.

Arizona hasn't won a non-shootout game since February 3rd.  They are 0-2-17-2 over that stretch. They have scored 1 goal or less in 14 of those games.

Toronto over that same stretch?  4-1-15-2.  They have scored 1 goal or less 9 times.  If the Leafs have been bad, I don't think there is a word to describe how inept Arizona has been.

4-1-15-2?  What is the 1?  I'm confused by this way of showing a record.

Regulation/OT wins - Shootout wins - Losses - OT/SOL

Thanks. Yeah, Arizona = wow.

Arizona's line-up:

Rieder-Arcobello-Doan
Korpikoski-Chipchura-Gunningham
Erat-Gagner-Moss
McGinn-Vitale-Crombeen

OEL-Stone
Dahlbeck-Moore
Gormley-Murphy

Smith

I mean, aside from OEL, that's just awful.

Sticking with Arizona, their 3 leading scorers are Yandle (defenceman/traded), OEL (defenceman), and Vermette (traded). Their next highest scorer is Sam "3C" Gagner with 34 points in 71 games.

Nobody cares about the coyotes, that's why we don't hear about it.

It's .273 vs .143, both are very very bad, sure the Coyotes are worse but the difference to me is like -30 vs. -40, its just so cold at that point that its hard to distinguish the difference.

Again, this team really pulled out all the stops in this tank thing.

As I said above they are 2-8-0 in their last 10 games.  But even if we took their pace since January along with the Leafs slide:
12-17-5 - .426 PT%.  Edmonton has 10 games left.  That amounts to 8.5 points.  So the Leafs would have to end the season on a 14 game losing streak and Edmonton would to not struggle against a tough schedule.  It's just not going to happen.  Especially with the Leafs playing Buffalo and Columbus in their last few games.

It certainly would be something if the Leafs managed to find a way into the Top 3.  Knowing their luck though, Edmonton would then win the lottery from the 4th position.

And yet Arizona is sitting in a better spot than the Leafs as far as picks and prospects go. They already have Max Domi and they will probably get either McDavid or Eichel, plus another 1st rounder his year. They also have 2 first rounders next year. I'd take that any day over what the Leafs have coming down the pipe.

If the hockey gods were fair, and we all know that they are not, the Leafs should win the draft lottery and get McDavid. Edmonton will probably win it.  ::)

Arizona loses another one and scores a whopping 1 goal or less for the 15th time in 22 games.  They have scored 27 goals over that stretch.  The Leafs over that February stretch onward have 47 goals.  I know its beating a dead horse but I feel awful for the 5 people who are showing up to Arizona games.

They've also already more or less completed the sell off of all of their valuable trade assets. Outside of the difference between Arizona likely picking higher than the Leafs this year there really isn't much difference there. The Coyotes have Domi, the Leafs have Nylander. They have two first round picks this year, so do the Leafs. They have two first rounders next year, the Leafs probably will once they clear out their bigger name guys.

Is this an accurate accumulation of the Leafs draft picks for the 2015 NED?
1st + 1st (NAS), 3rd, 4th + 4th (PIT), 5th, 6th, 7th

Yep.  The Pittsburgh 2nd round pick is for next year.  There is a conditional pick attached to Jokinen if he contributes to a deep St. Louis run.

Which is actually quite sad, when you think about it.  The Leafs had to trade off a bunch of assets just to get back to par.  The Nashville first will be a pretty late one.  There isn't really that much difference between it and their own 2nd rounder.  It shows the extent of the hole they have dug themselves.

That's only if you figure that what they spent those picks on are sunk costs. The second the Leafs dealt is, if I'm not mistaken, the Bernier pick. He's probably still worth something at this point.
