The 2012-2013 Toronto Raptors thread: My Name is Jonas

Calderon was a leader by example, not a guy who would get the players fired up so to say. He was the undisputed leader in the locker room and regardless of how good or bad he was on the court that's going to be missed. To quote Paul Jones, someone's going to have to step up in that locker room now. Anyhow, it's the coach's job to get the players to be motivated and show up every night - I'm not seeing that in this team. When you give up that many leads over and over and over again it can't just be a talent thing.

You...you realize when I ask you questions I'm not just hoping you'll repeat yourself, right? But that you'll actually try to address some of the inconsistencies and fallacies in what you're saying?
Just because you disagree with something doesn't mean what I'm saying consists of "inconsistencies and fallacies" haha.

Not automatically, no. But in this case, yes.

- few point guards are as poor defensively as him.

This really does need to be highlighted. With Calderon on the court the Raptors gave up 112 points per possession. That's tied with Kleiza for the worst on the team. Worse than Bargnani, a guy who gets just an unending amount of criticism for his defense. Having a guy that bad defensively on point affects the entire team because if he can't stop the other guards from breaking him down and penetrating everyone has to help out.

Offensively he was very efficient this year but there's just no hiding the fact that if the Raptors are going to lock it down and play a defensive style that the coach is known for there was probably no player holding them back more than Calderon.

When is Bargnani expected back?... and what are the odds he's dealt as soon as he does?

I'd heard within the week for the return. As to the odds, I'm sure that BC will want him to play a few games and hopefully demonstrate some value/actual recovery from the injury before dealing him.

Just got an email from my best friend who said he's kidnapping me Sunday morning to go see the Raps/Heat @ the ACC and then we go watch the "Harbowl." - Best part is he secured my hall pass first.  8)

Led by newly-acquired forward Rudy Gay who contributed with 20 points offensively, the Raptors vaulted past the L.A. Clippers Friday night at the ACC, by a score of 98-73.

Before a sold-out capacity crowd (and the Raptors fifith sell-out of the season), the Raptors were also led by John Lucas with 17 pts., DeRozan & Johnson with 18 pts., respectively.

Great confidence-building win!

The bad news is the Raptors lost again after leading going into the 4th.

The good news is Bargnani is back and played fairly well.

How many 4th quarter leads can one team blow? In front of the home fans no less! I'm sick and tired of this crap. 12 games now where the Raptors held a lead in the 4th quarter and lost. 12! It's pathetic. This team is now officially out of the playoff race. You might as well give more minutes Ross and JV and showcase potential trade chips like Bargnani. It's over.

I've never seen a team as frustrating as the 12/13 Raptors. I've witnessed some horrible Leafs and Jays season, but in terms of sheer frustration nothing has been worse than this year's Raptors. This was supposed to be a year where we contend for a playoff spot. Instead it's another lost season and we don't even have a 1st round pick (or a 2nd)! Thanks Bryan, thanks Dwayne. Don't let the door hit you guys on the way out.

The bad news is Casey is crazy.  Val played 2 minutes.  Ross sits half the game for Alan Anderson to chuck bad shots and get set-plays.

I don't think it's crazy, although I agree it stinks. I think they're trying to make a push for a playoff spot and save some jobs when they probably should be focusing on development.

I thought Anderson did an ok job defending Pierce, for what it's worth.

The Raptors are pretty much out of the playoff race now. I'd expect to see much more of JV and Ross after the trade deadline. Seems to me like they're showcasing Bargnani and Anderson.

Rumour has it the Bulls and Raptors are (in principle) discussing Boozer for Bargnani.
Whoa. Boozer fills a huge hole in this lineup.

His 9.6 RPG is HUGE on a team that sucks on the glass and who's lead rebounder is averaging only 7.0 RPG. His offense has slipped a little bit this year (but he's still averaging 15.7 points) and injuries are always a concern for him. Still, he's far and away a better option for this team than Andrea Bargnani.

Valanciunas
Boozer
Gay
DeRozan
Lowry

That looks like at least like a playoff team, but not this year. 8.5 games back is way too many to make up.
