The Marlies In Context - A Playoff Primer

Marlies win.  Tough series.  Glad to be done with this Devils team.  Some unbelievably dirty play.

That was quick, here's the schedule for the next round:

Up next for the Marlies, the Hershey Bears.  Hershey has 232 penalty minutes in 12 games in the postseason.

Hershey Bears - 12GP - 7 wins, 5 losses - 30 goals for, 29 goals against

Regular season
6-2 win in Hershey
5-2 loss at home

232!? For real?

Liam O'Brien - 51 penalty minutes
Riley Barber - 24 penalty minutes
Ryan Stanton - 24 penalty minutes
Garrett Mitchell - 21 penalty minutes

The Bears finished 1st in the Atlantic division, although they were a good 16 points behind the Marlies. They're led by AHL veteran Chris Bourque, who scored 80 points in 72 games this season. Just 7 points in 12 playoff games so far though.

They also have Justin Peters in net, who looked like he was going to carve out a decent career as a capable NHL back-up but seems destined for the AHL now. Split starts with former NHLer Dan Ellis during the regular season and had pretty mediocre numbers (3.04 GAA, 0.896 Sv%) but still had a winning record (17-8-7). He's come alive in the playoffs though with a 1.78 GAA and .935 Sv%. So another tough goalie to get through.

Hersey is Washington's farm team, so of course Connor Carrick has played with them for a couple of seasons. He could provide some inside information. The Bears have former Leaf great Zack Sill on their side as well.

So is this going to be another rough and/or dirty series for the Marlies?  Or did they just have an insane couple of games with misconducts?

Liam O'Brien's a big-time goon. Stupid AHL.

I haven't watched any games but to judge from comments on here we definitely need to get some goaltending talent into the system, stat.
