The "Mr. T" Man of the Match Thread, 2014-15 Edition

And just a word about "games where nobody deserves it."  My view of this thread is that in every game, Leafs players' performance differs, and can be ranked.  Even in games where "nobody is any good," some players play better than others.  That's why I argued against a "none deserving" vote when somebody suggested it a few seasons ago.  I think allowing something like that would be a mistake.  Then the thread just devolves into a lovefest, not an analysis (such as it admittedly is).  [Not that you were suggesting this, I just wanted to comment on it.]

I think I agree but one of the things that made me think of Brown's wins in that way was that it seemed to highlight the sort of divide in some people's ways of thinking where some would vote for someone like Brown on a sort of grading curve where someone like Kessel(or whoever) wasn't great by their standards, Mike Brown was a relatively competent version of Mike Brown. I don't think anyone ever really was making the argument that Brown was the most valuable player on a given night.

So it seems like there's a bit of an incongruity there where when the team wins it's about who contributes the most to the actual victory whereas in the loss it's simply an individual assessment based on the pre-conceived notions we have about how good players are.

I agree with CtB though, I don't think you need to change anything. Just that it's an interesting little wrinkle.

Well, then too people vote with their feet, so to speak.  There are always far fewer votes in games where we lose than when we win.  So the Santos/Browns of the world are being accoladed by only a few hardcore types.

I try to vote every game.. I thik Santorelli has been overall easilyt the teams best player night after night. win or lose. He by far gives the best effort each shift each night..

Rielly now the only d-man w/o a single accolade.  I'll say it again: he's been pretty invisible most nights except when he makes a gaffe.  The old sophomore slump.
