Fair enough. I just have a feeling Rutherford is going to do very, very well in whatever deal he make with this player.

Morrow seems a bit old for the Leafs set up frankly, I like him but he's probably better suited to a contender.
I wasn't sure if you caught that he is making $4.4 MIL this year and this next contract will be a UFA one which might inflate it.
I would prefer Ryan Clowe though.
I knew he was a 3.8 cap hit so it was more in reference to that, no way do I want Ruutu in Toronto with a hit much bigger than that, actually even that much bothers me, just doesn't make sense.
I'd prefer Clowe too but I'm sure he'd cost way more if SJ was even interested to start with.

Just got back to the office to see this:
"Burke would like Toronto to be more hard-nosed, especially up front.
A guy on the Leafs? radar could be San Jose W Ryane Clowe. He has a cap hit of $3.625 million through next season, but the word is he might be someone the Sharks are willing to part with before the deadline."
sniff* (*tear of joy)
I like Bruce a bit more now because he mentioned a deal that I like.

Maybe to a more veteran team looking for a guy to put them over the top. Not a team like the Leafs, looking longer term.

He's an fantastic player on a playoff team who signed him to a reasonable contract with term. - Do you honestly think they'd move him? I don't.

You don't think so??? But Bruce says " the word is he might be someone the Sharks are willing to part with before the deadline." Bruce said it!! Doesn't that mean something....like a mound of potatoes on a table kind of something???

Corn Flake said:If Schenn ended up in St. Louis I would suggest you all erase any memory of him ever being a Leaf from your minds because Hitch will probably turn him into the studliest stud blueliner you have ever seen.
But Schenn for Chris Stewart is a pretty fair looking swap if you ask me.

I suppose it depends. If you're looking at the two players performances this season it probably seems fair. But I think Stewart's performance last season was above and beyond anything Schenn has put together over a course of a full year and his potential is probably a little higher too. I can't see St. Louis making that move.
edit: You're bang-on with that Hitchcock comment though.

Maybe but I think its fairly close. I look at it from their past performances, current season but mostly their potential and I'd say its kind of even although tough to compare two very different roles like that.
Schenn's upside is that of a top unit shutdown guy. In a system like Hitch's I think his potential to reach that peak dramatically increases. Stewart's top is probably a 1st line power forward in the 70 point range if all goes well. In both cases, consistency seems to be the key factor towards both reaching those heights.
All in all I think it could be a perfect fit and like Sarge said, a great hockey trade. Both players are not playing key roles on either team right now although Schenn probably moreso than Stewart. Schenn's speed issues would be mitigated in St. Louis and Stewart's offensive game would come out more in Toronto's more speed-driven system.
Sarge said:Clowe/Stewart... Man, I just don't think guys like that are going to get moved.
