The Official 2012 MLB Thread

Uhhh, has anyone else noticed that in 23 games Albert Pujols has 0 home runs, 4 rbi's and a .216 batting average.  OPS at .570!

I mean, that's about the worst line imaginable for a 23 game stretch for anyone.

Wow, his OPS is worse than Bautista's!

That's not really fair. Everyone except the Angels front office felt only one of those players was actually, you know, good.

Didn't see this anywhere else, but didn't go past the first page either.

Pettitte may have misremembered Clemens after all as he backpedalled on the witness stand. Looks like Clemens may walk.

A 4-homerun game will certainly boost your stats, but what a year he is having so far:

.406 average 14 homeruns 36 RBIs

That's an 84 home run and 216 RBI pace.

Going from bad to worse in Boston...

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/josh-beckett-s-golf-round-is-further-proof-the-red-sox-never-are-his-top-priority.html;_ylt=Av1pkfyeeKp.w8mqE22qAFQ5nYcB

At a time when the Red Sox look like a disaster ? the bloated contracts, the fudged sellout streak, the Bobby V experiment getting worse by the day ? the team needs Beckett to be a stabilizing force rather than a divisive one.

...if you're a Red Sox player ? or at least one with a great arm ? common sense, decency and responsibility aren't among the necessary tenets.

Not a very flattering article on Beckett, was it? Heh.

On a lighter note, two records set in the Texas / Baltimore Game 1 last night. O's led off the game with back-to-back-to-back homers, apparently the first time that has ever been done in the AL (according to Wilner last night). Also, Colby Lewis became the first pitcher ever to give up 5 home runs AND strike out ten or more (he had 12). Weird line - five hits given up, all home runs, 12 strikeouts. After the first three homers, he struck out the next six and retired 18 in a row. (Link)

MLB Fires Arbitrator from Braun Case

This Braun case definitely hit a nerve somewhere, so to speak.  Obviously, there were plenty of grievances coming from many sides.

Major League Baseball fired longtime arbitrator Shyam Das for two basic reasons: 1) It didn?t and couldn?t agree with his Ryan Braun decision; 2) It had to fire him before he actually wrote his decision on Braun. Had he put the decision to paper, baseball precedent would have been set.
