I got into an arguement at work because a coworker got yelled at (cop let him off w.o a ticket) while he ran into a gas station. Neglect the fact he parked in 3 spots (1 of them handicap), but it's the officers fault for being aggressive.
It's the cops fault people get pulled over for speeding. It's the traffic cops fault someone gets penalized for parking improperly.
THis B.S. " I hate cops" mentality is a joke. We want them to protect us, but when they're protecting others FROM us there is a problem.
I'm not saying all cops are perfect or nice people, or even always correct. In fact, I think sometimes leniancy would do them better than ticketing (in Moon111's case for example) but at the same time, they didn't make anyone break the law.
People need to start taking responsibility for themselves and their actions.
Amen.
Imagine being a cop. Every person you're talking to is likely lying to you to some extent (I only had 1 beer, or I just took off my seatbelt for a minute, or I had no idea I was speeding, etc).
I'd hate being a cop. My hat goes off to all cops out there. Yeah, there's the odd bad apple, but most I've got to know are solid people who care about what they're doing...

I'll remember that the next time I get a speeding ticket.

allegedly, to the environmental folks. Funny thing though, we charge people 5 cents each for those stupid bags, but when I see the invoicing from the supplier, we actually pay about 7 cents each for them (plus shipping! and taxes) in the first place. I think they're considered 'cost of doing business' expenses (which translates into 'business writeoffs' for the parent company, certainly not us) and then a couple times a year, they write a nice fat cheque (fat to me, probably a drop in the bucket to the company) to WWF or some such and say 'look at us, good corporate citizen!'. *rolls eyes*
I'd buy the whole 'it's a bag tax' if I saw it being rung in the way we do taxes, where it's accountable and remitted to the appropriate folks at month's end (or whenever). I'm not sure how they're accounted for though.
