anyone who has mw3 for ps3 add me, psn: mcpwnage007 and put tmlfans in the friend request.  Don't know how long mw3 is going to peak my interest for but playing with others makes it a lot more fun.

Do you have NHL12?

Haven't had a chance to play MW3 yet...but all of the user reviews have murdered my anticipation.

The developers are actually begging people to post good reviews.

Yeah, it's funny how the critical reviews show pretty good scores but the user reviews are just killing the game.

I almost bought it but then I remembered I suck at sports games, sorry nope

I used to really like FPS games. For me though it was all single player. I remember games like Goldeneye, Medal of Honor and COD 2: the Big Red One having really enjoyable first person campaigns with story, varied gameplay and the whole thing.

I look at a lot of the games coming out now, and admittedly I don't play them so am speaking from some ignorance, and they just seem so limited. Basically spending 60 bucks for a ticket to multi-player and some tweaks to graphics and weaponry.

I don't know, just ranting. But it's definitely one big area of gaming that I just don't get.

Yeah, totally agree here. I mean, I like multiplayer online shooters, but that's why I purchased Day of Defeat and Red Orchestra: You don't have to pay a premium to play a solid online only game.

Goldeneye, Perfect Dark were good examples. Half Life 2 was actually insanely good, as was Bioshock. All these games kept me completely hooked and immersed in excellent single player modes.

I feel like the FPS genre is just reducing itself to the lowest common denominator.

A lot of them are - the way it seems is that, pretty much any FPS set in a realistic, war like setting is going to be heavy on the multiplayer while all but ignoring the single player these days. They're all about "pwning some n00bs" and other such lame expressions. Outside of the Bioshock and Resistance games, FPS games just don't interest me anymore.

Anyone know of any free games that isn't turn based where you gather experience in different categories and upgrade strength etc...that isn't in 3D?

Another type of game I'm looking for. A game about world domination or ruling a country? ;D Preferably not online based and free.

They completely neglect the casual gamer by offering short, linear single player features with no options for customization. In the case of Battlefield 3, the campaign was a complete afterthought despite being touted as one of the selling points.

All of the game options lie in multiplayer, and aside from those few titles like Killzone and now Black Ops, you HAVE to be online to enjoy it. I dont have the motivation or, more importantly the time to "get better" at the game. There's nothing fun about being target practice for good players online. By limiting the options for people like me, its almost like the developers are telling me that they don't want me to play their games.

I dunno...I'm enjoying MW3 on the PS3 so far.  I mean sure is it a ton different than MW2?  Not really.  It's definitely different from Black Ops (some good ways, some bad ways).  Some real basic Pros and Cons as I only have about three hours in MP so far:

PROS:

- Playing MW3 you can definitely tell how sluggish BO was - MW2 runs like butter
- Not major, but maps load much faster.  Anyone notice how slowly maps loaded in BO?  The fastest loading ones came from DLC which weren't done by Treyarch.  Maybe that's telling
- Something simple like FINALLY being able to scroll through your killstreaks to decide what order to use them
- MW3 is definitely more run-and-gun with tighter maps.  This is a PRO to me
- I dig how you have to unlock everything for each weapon now, though in reality it's pretty easy to level up
- Air Support doesn't seem so overpowering and there seems to be lots of room for cover anyway
- COD Elite seems pretty cool but it's not even working right now lol
- Can quickly get into games. Searching seems super fast though the sheer amount of people playing right now is probably huge in that regard
- Noob Tube is nerfed.  I think I have only seen one person using it

CONS:
- Spawn points are atrocious on some maps like Dome and Mission for example (both great maps too).  What year is this that they can't do spawn points correctly?  BO sucked at this at launch too and they still weren't great after patched
- Menu system seems clunky.  Takes a lot of clicks to see info or to get to certain screens
- Recoil on most guns I have tried seem very minimal.  Add to that the "Kick" perk which lowers your recoil and you are a finely tuned aiming machine
- CONSTANT, and I mean CONSTANT UAVs in the air.  I think this is a side effect to the way they have set up killstreaks in MW3.  I guess it's not a bad thing as it's a good team bonus, but as someone who likes to shoot down UAVs hearing that one is constantly in the air makes me wish I had 100 rockets
- It's really easy to level up and especially to go PRO on perks.  Treyarch handled this better I think
- Obviously you can't customize your character/emblem like you could BO which is a turn off to some
- I heard the party system is broken even after a patch but I haven't tried it myself
- I find the audio weak.  It seems to lack bass that MW2 and BO had.  I have only played in headphones and it's quite noticeable
- They bring back the heartbeat monitor?  The worst attachment of all time?  Different ways to counter it to be sure, but man nobody except the lamest of the lame like or even use this thing

Try Civilization 2. It's an old game but I think it's the best one in the series.

I found the Bioshock series to be great single player, and Bioshock 2 to have awesome multiplayer. I preferred it in many ways to COD's as it had many different angles going on (perks, powers, being able to be the Big daddy etc.). It was, and is, very imaginative with great maps (albeit small) and great gameplay.

Looking forward to the next one!

So basically you're looking for a 2D, action RPG?

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was on of my favs growing up. No increases in strength or anything, but pretty fun.

Otherwise, man oh man, I can't think of anything. Diablo II? Technically it's not 3D.

As for world domination and resources and such:

Civ 4 is good and cheap, Total War series was really good. If you're talking old school then you can't go wrong with Age of Empires.

I've always really liked the Total War series. It can get graphically intense but you can choose to simulate the battles and I've found that it's got some options that are unique to the series and pretty fun.

The best rpg that almost follows those rules I have played would have to be "Final Fantasy Tactics."  It isnt as intricate as some of the newer rpg's and I have never played such a satisfying game since. (It is from PS1, however).

Also, Civilization Revolution PS3? Although it isn't free. Wait, how can you get all that for no $???

So are the Civilization games, though, I haven't played Revolution, so, it could be different.

Yeah, I know, but in regards to an RPG whereas Civ is a sim. Tactics is about as turn based as you can get. It doesn't sound like he's interested in a Japanese tactical RPG imo, although it is a good game.
