The Official TFC/Soccer thread

Pumas defeated Dallas 2-0 last night in Dallas. They are now tied with 7 points each. TFC has 6 points. There are 2 rounds left in the Group Phase with the top 2 advancing. TFC hosts Pumas on Tuesday after playing Chivas USA in LA on Saturday.

Seems like most of the players were probably looking ahead to the Champions League game at BMO against Pumas on Tuesday. Very unlikely to see the MLS playoffs now as they are 9 points out with 3 to play.
 
TFC drew 1-1 with Pumas last night, while in a shocker Tauro defeated FC Dallas 5-3 tonight in Panama. With 1 matchday left, Pumas lead the group on 8 points with Dallas and TFC tied at 7 points. TFC's final match will be at Dallas on Oct. 18th.

As I understand the process, the 1st tie-breaker is points in the 2 games between the tied teams, then goal difference in those games followed by away goals. Basically, TFC will need to win in Dallas and score at least 2 goals in the process, as Dallas won the 1st game 1-0.

If TFC wins 1-0, won't that put them at 10 pts and Dallas at 7 and guarantee them a birth in the next round?
 
You're right, that's what happens when I'm trying to put this together and watch baseball at the same time. Maybe it's a sign that I need sleep.
 
Looking forward to Oct. 18th!  At least they have a chance at something (other than a MLS playoff spot).  GO TFC!!
 
Canada is 2-0 and on top of Group D in the second round of the CONCACAF qualifiers for World Cup 2014. We are actually in a great position to move onto Round 3 of the qualifiers. It's been almost 30 years since Canada qualified for a WC <Mexico 1986>

And not to get cocky, but of all the groups, they get to slot into Group C if they make it to Round 3.

The difference being:

Group A - USA (#31); Jamaica (#45)
Group B - Mexico (#20); Costa Rica (#57)
Group C - Honduras (#53); Cuba (#103)

Beating Honduras or Panama (I'm assuming that they will eventually win their group) won't be easy, but I wouldn't give Canada a shot at beating the US or Mexico, so they have at least a good opportunity to win their 3rd round matchup/finish 2nd and advance to the 4th round.  That gives them a great opportunity to have a shot at qualifying.

Think of the shot in the arm this would give Canada Soccer if they could pull it off - what qualifying would do for the National Program....
 
Qualifying for Brazil would likely get a couple of players like Junior Hoilett of Blackburn Rovers off the fence and into a Canadian jersey. Canada is away to St. Lucia on Friday (Oct. 7) and then home to Puerto Rico on the following Tuesday (Oct. 11th).

Toronto FC comes up with a huge 3-0 win in Dallas tonight. Danny Koevermans and Joao Plata with a pair while Milos Kocic posts the clean sheet. With that road win, TFC advances to the knockout round of the CONCACAF Champions League. There are still group matches to be played in the next 2 days so final placing as well as potential quarterfinal opponents are TBD. Group winners will be in one pot with the runners-up in the other pot. TFC will not face the other team to advance from their group. The quarterfinals will be played over 2 legs. 1st leg will be March 6-8, 2012 with the 2nd leg a week later.
 
Nearly forgot all about this match-up.  Thanks for posting, seahawk.  Finally, some great news!  At least, it beats reading about a lousy MLS season, for TFC fans.
 
TFC advances to the CCL knockout phase as the runner up in Group C after Pumas defeated Tauro 1-0 last night. 6 of the 8 places in the knockout phase are filled. The final 2 places will be filled tonight in the final 2 Group Stage games. TFC will host the 1st leg of their quarter-finals March 6-8. They can not draw Pumas in the quarters so potential opponents are Santos Laguna or defending CCL champs Monterrey of Mexico and either LA Galaxy or Alajuelense of Costa Rica.
 
Saturday night's game (Oct. 22) was TFC's final regular-season game, tying the New England Revolution 2-2, on home turf.

TFC finished with a 6-13-15 record, good for 33 pts., and eighth in the MLS Eastern Conference standings, their lowest overall totals since their expansion year of 2007, and, out of the playoffs.

All is not lost for TFC fans, as the TFC has made the quarter-final round of the CONCACAF Champions League, with plenty more to come (hopefully).

CONCACAF has announced that the draw for the knock-out phase of the Champions League will be on November 8th. Also, MLS has set November 23rd the date for the Montreal Impact expansion draft. The Impact will select 10 players in that draft.

Saw some hi-lites from various games.  Looks like the top
clubs -- Bayern and Real Madrid -- are riding a wave atop
their respective divisions.  Of course, not to be overlooked
are the English clubs, namely Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Ajax & Man City.
 
I honestly think that if all keeps up,  it wouldn't come as a
surprise if the top clubs continue their winning ways.  So
far, so good.

Ah.... my Romanian friends in Romania must be wearing
paper bags over their heads what with the performances of
Chelul Galati!  A sports article referred to them as
"minnows".      :o :)
