The cold temperatures didn't help to disrupt the team from Panama that so often plays in balmy conditions.  No, nothing.

Club (Athletico) Independiente wins aggregate 5-1 in a 1-1 draw in the Second Leg rematch of the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League, this eliminating Toronto FC in the Round of 16.
Even though the TFC tried valiantly -- injuries & a delpleted roster lacking scoring punch, plus the weather - overcoming the 4-0 First Leg defeat simply proved too much. (Toronto would have had to win 5-1 to win the aggregate).

Well, if Toronto had won 5-1, having lost 4-0 away, making the aggregate score 5-5 Independiente would have gone through on the away goals rule.

Toronto would have needed to win 6-1. Or 5-0. Or 7-2. By 5 clear goals.

You're correct on that count.  They most likely would have had to win by a 5-0 or a 6-1 score, which seemed like such an impossible task.

Forget Giovinco or even Vasquez.  Think Pozuelo.

Yep, looks like the Spanish midfielder is set to take TFC fans hearts by storm as he replaces the part of the beloved Giovinco.

Alejandro Pozuelo scored twice and assisted on Altidore's goal in leading the TFC to a 4-0 shutout over the NYC FC Friday evening at BMO Field before 34,000+ screaming fanatics.
It was his MLS debut and he made the penalty kick shot look ridiculously easy. And why not for he seems to be an expert with the "Panenka".

" ...?I come to shoot the penalty. The first penalty I shoot I do the Panenka.?
...always the first penalty [of the game] the keeper go right or left. I think it impossible the keeper stay in the middle.? So I try and do good.?

Giovinco, is 32 wanted a ton of money on a long term contract. We know where that leads too. Yes he was a fantastic player but not great with both feet. This new guy Pozuelo has great feet, vision and touch. Supposedly, a great guy in the room.  I am looking forward to this season!

His touch...I mean we were lucky to have Giovinco.  He was a great player but those moves are not things that we would get out of the Italian.

Next game is on TFC new hybrid field, synthetics woven in with real turf, supposedly a much firmer resilient surface used by a lot of the best teams in Europe. Hope it helps

Toronto (5-1-2) is fourth in the Eastern Conference and is tied with the first place Philadelphia Union (6-2-3) in GF (Goals For) with 21.

Meet the newest member of the TFC...Centreback (defence) Omar Gonzalez:

https://www.wakingthered.com/2019/6/3/18650670/breaking-toronto-fc-sign-omar-gonzalez

We won?t be seeing him in a TFC jersey until July.

Bienvenido, Omar!

What fans may not know is this:

The 2009 MLS SuperDraft is one that haunted Toronto FC for years. A team at that time in desperate need of a centre-back to build around decided to use the second overall pick on midfielder Sam Cronin. Gonzalez went with the very next pick to the Los Angeles Galaxy.  From the time Gonzalez stepped on an MLS pitch, you just knew he was the real deal. The towering central defender went on to win the 2009 Rookie of the Year, 2011 Defender of the Year, was named four times into the MLS Best XI, and helped his Galaxy team to three MLS Cup triumphs and two Supporters Shields.

At least, he?s ours now.

Bradley says what many think (especially fans of TFC):

Bradley slammed MLS for failing to work out scheduling conflicts with the FIFA in terms of international duty.

?I said it before and I?ll say it again, it?s the worst part about the league (MLS), the fact that teams play through FIFA dates,? Bradley said following a TFC training session. ?Because as you?re trying to give everything you have for your club team and the national team, there?s too many moments where you?re missing something and I think it?s got to be the next step for the league, or one of the next steps, in terms of respecting the FIFA dates, not playing through summer tournaments. And it always comes back to scheduling issues.?

It's about time for some TFC news...

The Toronto FC plays the New England Revolution at BMO Field here in T.O. on Saturday.

The TFC (10-10-7) are currently in eighth spot in the Eastern Conference.  The top seven teams make the post-season.
Only seven matches remaining as they find themselves just behind the Montreal Impact for that seventh spot.

GO TFC!

In reference to the post below, the TFC tied the New England Revolution last Saturday 1-1.

Yesterday (Sunday), Toronto beat the hapless FC Cincinnati 5-1 in Cincinnati.

With the above, Toronto moves into a tie for sixth spot alongside the New York Red Bull in the Eastern Conference.

Next game is Wednesday Sept. 11 against the first place NYC FC at BMO Field.  Another crucial match as Toronto can?t afford to lose many more games in a bid to keep their playoff hopes alive.  TFC is on a bit of a roll and the momentum needs to be upkept.

Good news for TFC fans!

Sunday, the TFC extended their winning streak to nine consecutive games, with a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rapids at BMO Field.

That's the good news, but the better news and one every Toronto soccer aficionado that follows the TFC wants to hear, is that the TFC are now entrenched in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings -- good enough for a playoff run.

Let the playoffs begin!

The Toronto FC will play DC United at BMO Field in T.O. on Saturday October 19th in Round 1 @6pm.

TFC finished fourth on the year, just five points back of third-place Philadelphia Union, with a 13-10-11 w/l/t record.

The first place teams in both Conferences receive a bye ? the NYC FC & the LA FC.

TFC?s top forward Jozey Altidore may remain questionable due to a quad injury.
The TFC have no other injured players.

The Canadian Men?s squad under coach John Herdman shutout the US Men?s squad 2-0 Tuesday evening for the first time since 1985.

Led by scorers phenom Alphonso Davis and Lucas Cavallini, there was no stopping Canada as coach Herdman said that it would come down to who wanted it more.  Sure enough, Canada did and how!

Team Canada Men?s is attempting to win at this CONCACAF Nations League event or at least to finish in the top six in a bid to qualify for the 2022 Workd Cup.

WAY TO GO, CANADA!

Woo-hoo, T.O. soccer fans!

TFC defeat DC United by a score of 5-1 at BMO Field Saturday night in the First Round action of the MLS playoffs.

Next up, TFC goes onto the Eastern Conference Semi-Final against the New York City FC in New York next week (Wednesday Oct. 29).

With the score tied at 1-1, and in extra time, Toronto rained four straight goals to win it in front of 25,000+ boisterous fans at BMO.

At least it feels good to celebrate.  Next comes the hard part as in how to defeat the league?s second-best team, the NYCFC.  Leave it up to TFC and Vanney to figure that one out.  We fans are confident ?They Will!?.

Hey, who says you can?t beat Wayne Rooney?

Big win for TFC!

Toronto defeated the NYC FC 2-1 thanks to Pozuelo?s two goals (the second one on a penalty) in their Eastern Conference Semi-Final, to advance to the Eastern Conference Final against either of Philadelphia or Atlanta.

Pozuelo seems to have a knack of scoring against the NYC FC and no doubt he would connect not once but twice in advancing his team in these MLS playoffs.
Give credit to coach Vanney in plotting strategy in finding a way to stymie the NYC?s brilliant offence.  Consider that TFC won without one of their best forwards Jozey Altidore.  There?s always Alejandro.

And a hard venue to play in, smallest pitch in MLS (strange they don't have standards to be adhered to). I think it gives the home team a huge advantage as they do learn the best way to manipulate the field.
Great win by the Reds

TFC is slated to play the Atlanta United FC in the Eastern Conference Final on Wednesday Oct. 30 @8pm EST.  The game will be played at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

It?ll be a matchup of champions ? the United are the 2018 Champions while the TFC are the 2017 Champions.

GO TFC!
