The Official TV Thread

Have I already extolled the virtues of Sex Education on Netflix? Season 2 just landed.

Like a much funnier and less horrifying Euphoria. And Gillian Anderson channeling Emma Thompson.

Mindhunter on Netflix has been put on hiatus as Fincher works on other projects. Season 3 not happening anytime soon :(

Waited long enough for season 2. Oh well, too bad because that's a good show. Like Ozark I guess, season 3 coming eventually lol.

Three shows I'd recommend without reservation are:

1. Harley Quinn. It's an animated series that is at times very violent and profane but is, at it's best, one of the funnier things I've seen all year. James Odomian's Bane voice is maybe the funniest thing about a show full of funny stuff.

2. Star Trek Picard. Note perfect for old school nerds but also something that's really well made and resists the Star Wars trend of just referring to older things you liked as entertainment.

3. McMillions. A Documentary series on HBO about how all of those old McDonald's Monopoly games were rigged. Incredible cast of characters.

Oh my goodness this cast!

Just watched the Documentary on Arron Hernadez on Netflix, crazy what he did.  Murdered 3 people, 2 just before signing a 5 year 40 Million contract with the and then murdered his fiances sisters boyfriend (who was a friend of his) a few streets from his mansion.  He also tried to murder another guy.
A tremendous athlete who was more than completely fu_ked up.

Also they were going to cancel Ray Donovan without tying up the story lines. One of my favorite all time series. I just heard they are doing either more episodes or a film to conclude so many great seasons of watching Liev Schreiber and Jon Voight tearing up the scenery.

I read the book written by his brother entitled ?The Truth about Aaron.?

Here is my review as seen on Kobo:

(5-star rating) A Sobering Read
This book written by Jonathan Hernandez, brother of NFL superstar Aaron Hernandez and the many troubles, problems, and personal trauma that plagued him throughout his life. While some may dismiss this book as a sop story in defence of yet another criminally-driven NFL player, most will look upon this story as a sobering read and reminder of what the perils of undetected CTE -- a severe brain disease primarily attriutable to both football players and athetes in physical or contact sports. While Aaron Hernandez did suffer early cildhood trauma -- he was sexually molested by a male as early as age six and would later play a role in his sexual gender preferences -- the major thing that stands and what appears to be the cause of his emotional, sychological, and mental-abnormal states is directly related to CTE. Aaron Hernandez was a young, highly skilled athlete who eventually would become the second highest paid tight end in the league, and for whom life seemed too difficult for him to make any sense of it. His choice of friends, his inability to make proper decisions ~& choices, his many mood swings, his homosexuality (he had a daughter by way of his girlfriend and the woman he loved but just could't provide neither intimacy wich made him feel guilty), etc., etc. Jonathan Hernandez portrays his beloved brother as a troubled soul who couldnt face his demns to get the help he needed, and the writer who believes that perhaos they (his family) should have done more for Aaron.

Something else I'd recommend is Hulu's new reworking of High Fidelity starring Zoe Kravitz. Somehow they took a novel about a disaffected white male North Londoner and his existential crisis and have reimagined it with a biracial bisexual woman in Brookyn and it's both shockingly faithful to the source with some really clever updates for modern times.

Nick Hornby's stuff has always seemed tailored to those of us who are driven by our obsessions even when they hurt us(which seems applicable tonight) and this is no exception. Plus an absolutely incredible soundtrack.

That's good to hear. I was excited to hear that they were doing this.

Just watched After Life on Netflix, I have to admit I am not a huge Ricky Gervais fan, but he is great in this, really funny show but touching as well.
Now we are onto Ozark which we are enjoying a lot.

found a great series on Netflix: "Somebody feed Phil".  Phil is a tall thin, bird like man with an amazing smile and is really funny.  He travels to different cities around the world each episode and eats at local resto's as well as the best places. Good travelogue and very funny. Helps lift off the Covid blues.
Phil is the guy who created Everyone Loves Raymond so may explain where his great sense of humour comes from.  Watch it!

If you like that and you have Amazon Prime, you'll also enjoy Phil's earlier show "I'll Have What Phil's Having". It's pretty much the same show as "Somebody Feed Phil", and there's a 6-episode single season from 2015 on Prime Video.

Oh, and there's also a couple of "Funny or Die" shorts on Prime Video featuring Phil Rosenthal:  "Jewish Die Hard" and "Jewish James Bond".

Thanks for the headsup on that H.S. appreciated.

Don't want to start a separate thread but was watching the U.S. news last night and they said that something like 68% of all Americans between 19-39 had never heard of the word Holocaust.  Very scary stuff indeed.

I believe you either misheard or the news misinterpreted that data. This is the report that's been floating around this week with those numbers:

https://www.refinery29.com/en-gb/2020/09/10030425/holocaust-survey-gen-z-millennials-statistics said:
The survey was conducted by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference) and included 1,000 Millennials and Gen Z-ers between the ages of 18 and 39 from all 50 American states. It found that it's not just the details that many Americans are unaware of, there are plenty who think the Holocaust never happened or who have never even heard the term before.

According to their findings, nearly two-thirds of respondents did not know 6 million Jews were killed during the Holocaust, nearly half cannot name a single concentration camp, and 11 percent believe Jews caused the Holocaust, while 12 percent say they haven't heard (or don't think they've heard) the word "Holocaust" before.

I know a lot of you have been waiting for this announcement:

Thanks for the recommendations we powered through Somebody Feed Phil and now watching this. Right up my alley
