The dog said "Nope! Forget it! Don't need to pee" when I opened the back door this morning to let him out. He's currently sacked out on the couch with a blankie and pillow. Doesn't look like he'll even want a walkies today.

lol.

brass monkeys have been brought in for the day too. and my usual outdoor power walk looks like it might be a half hour on the exercise bike instead....

Extreme cold weather warnings issued by Environment Canada for Toronto & the GTA, with temperatures at -45 this morning (factoring in windchill with winds gusting between 50-60 km/h).  Thanks to bitterly cold Arctic air moving in.

Extreme cold weather in effect until early Monday.

Looks like the groundhogs were right -- lots more winter to go.

Dress warm, stay well, and pray for spring!  :)

We are in a snow storm AGAIN here on the East Coast.  They are saying 50+ cm and I didn't believe them but it is storming out there now!

We already were noted by the weather channel for how much snow we got in January.  http://www.theweathernetwork.com/videos/gallery/all/video_gallery/raw-moncton-megabanks-jawdropping-snow/sharevideo/4032116384001

:o  BBD, those snow banks are insane.

My parents are in NFLD and I talked to them on Sunday and they just had a major snow dumping the day before and more expected. My mom said they couldn't even see out there front window.

Power outage here in North York (Toronto).  Also affected other areas including downtown Toronto & environs.

Burnt transformers the cause.  Power won't be restored yet.  It's been out since 6:30 this evening.  (*sigh*)

Outdated technology and mismanagement is the cause of rotating power outages in Newfoundland today, not weather.

Just about the same here in Ontario.  The provincial govt. admitted awhile back that the grid is needs to be upgraded as it cannot take the load as it stands.  Of course, shortsightedness and a bloated Hydro bureaucracy go hand in hand, and this goes back years.

Went out for a few hrs near me in Upper Beaches as well. Back up at 12am.

Ah, finally, Spring is in the air here in Toronto!  Still somewhat cold/cool but definitely coming soon.  Thank heavens!

EF-2 touched down in Teviotdale.  Holy **** - I hope everyone was OK!

Fall forecast for most of Canada calls for warmer weather through October, but not all regions will feel it the same.  Here's a summarization of what's to come:

Out West, drought will continue throughout September and parts of October.  Bad news for fire-stricken areas.  It will also be warmer than normal until late fall.

Out in the Prairies, ranging from Manitoba to Northern Ontario, expect there to be plenty of rain including early frost.

In Southcentral Ontario including Quebec, it will be mostly pleasant and warmer than normal with very little rainfall well into the month of October.

Atlantic Canada will receive most of the chill resulting from the Arctic air mass including some heavy storms directed at Newfoundland in particular.  For the rest of the region, storms will be few.

Finally, El Ni?o, where have you been?  The fact that the Pacific Ocean currents are warming up stronger than ever we shall say, is an indication for a milder winter across most of Canada this year, especially for Western and eastern parts of the country, with less snow possibly around the Great Lakes area.

Read the full fall/winter forecast here:

Looks like Winter will be mild throughout the country thanks to "El Ni?o".  In fact, one of the warmest winters on record is being touted for all regions in Canada, from the West to the East, from Pacific to Atlantic.

Let's begin region by region:
In the West, primarily Alberta, and in B.C., temperatures will be above-normal with minimal snowfall.  Snow will accumulate in the mountain areas in the Rockies and in the ski regions, where there will be more than a sufficient amount.

The Prairies and in Central Canada, Regina & Manitoba, dry & mild conditions will prevail as well as average to below-average snowfalls. The Arctic air mass moves away creating fewer snowstorms compared to previous winters.

Quebec and Ontario will also experience same temperature-like mild conditions and with less snowfall.  However, there maybe a rise in ice storms which these regions may experience at various times, particularly in the later months (January /February) before it winds down.  Be prepared for power outages should these storms develop.

For Atlantic Canada, Nova Scotia may get ice & rain storms in the latter half as well as more snow.  Milder temperatures will prevail.  Snowier conditions may also impact New Brunswick & P.E.I., particularly in the later winter months.

Newfoundlanders can expect not only milder temperatures as well as less snow & storms.

Clipper storm (Lake Effect snow) for Southern Ontario will bring snow squalls, wind, and poor visibility, from today to Wednesday. Drive carefully!

In the Maritimes, a blizzard is expected which will bring a wintry mix.

Those poor Winnipegers.  Average temp. Right now is  -20C (windchill -36C).  Usually, seasonal temp should be -13C (with a low of -24C).

Brrrrrrrrrrrr!

Drive safe on the winter roads.  You aren't special.  Bad visibility affects you too and your arrogance can cost yourself and others dearly...

Eeep. I hope that's just an all purpose ominous warning and not inspired by a particularly bad day.

I knew we were supposed to get some snow squalls today but it's really coming down here in Hamilton. Crazy how it can just change on a dime like that, one minute there was nothing and then I looked out the window and everything was white. Gonna be a rough ride home for many.

Intended as both.  I got called in to help with a multi-car trauma.  The roads were awful.  Please everyone be safe.

As someone from Ireland who in 30+ years of life has seen one winter with snow deeper than about 1.5 inches, this afternoon and evening in Boston has been a combination of hugely fun, beautiful, eye opening and also terrifying.

At 4pm there was no snow. By 7pm it was shin deep with drifts above knee level.

Be interesting if my flight tomorrow will be going!
