Here is why: (from the article)
Frost levels penetrated an average 8-9 feet below the ground.
...the top 4 feet have thawed out, but they estimate there is still 4-5 feet of ground that has not warmed up enough.

The picture is very misleading. What you see in the picture isn't possible, assuming it's exposed to the air temps. But they're talking about pipes buried in the ground.

Who's been tempted to turn on their furnace the last few nights? It's freezing in here!

This weather is depressing,  It's supposed to still be summer, instead it feels more like fall already.  I wonder just whom Mother Nature is trying to impress!

Now, about that furnace ...let's just say the A/C's on vacation!  :)

it really is Augtober isn't it? My husband ran around shutting all the windows the other day. And turned the heat on. I think he's nuts. In April, 15 degrees is wonderful. Why is it sweater inducing cause it's Octob  August?

Because April's supposed to be 5-10 and August is supposed to be 25+

Not every single day it's not!

Normal High: 25C

I would say this summer has seen mostly below average temperatures.

I just moved to Houston Texas, it was a 104 the other day and with humidity they reported it feeling like 138.

I've never soaked through as many shirts in my life.

Ugh, at least it'll cool down fairly soon though.

Those poor air conditioners... :D

What's in store for Autumn?

- Warmer and drier in the West
- average precipitation for Prairies
- cooler and wetter in the Central (Manitoba & Northern Ontario)
- cooler then warmer and drier ormal for Ontario into the East (Quebec)
- humid and possibly wetter for the Atlantic

Everyone wondering about the upcoming winter?  Well, El Nino's effect will be felt this fall but it's true impact won't appear 'till winter, then again, it may be a weaker El Nino this year for most of the country.

I would say this summer has seen mostly below average temperatures.

Wouldn't that be an average of all of the years of data they have?  In other words, a mix of higher and lower than 25 temps?

Sure. But I never claimed it should be 25 every SINGLE day. I said the temperatures have been below average for the summer. I don't see how that can be disputed.

I don't want to argue about something that was a joking response, but you said August was supposed to be 25+ and I said not every day it's not.  Below average temperatures for some days is completely normal, that's all I was saying.

"Santabomb"?  No, no, no, not again...but wait...

Brrrrr!!  Extreme cold weather alert issued for Toronto & the GTA as temperatures plunge to -15C (windchill -30C).

All of Canada is in a deep freeze with temperatures in the prairies plunging to -40C.  In the B.C. Interior, Kelowna and other areas, they haven't seen so much snow in 40 years.

Keep warm, everyone.  Temperatures should rise to a more tolerable level next week.  Cold snap, go away!!
