The Official Weather Thread

living in Barrie, the 'snow belt' cause we lie between Lake Huron/Georgian Bay and Lake Simcoe, we usually get absolutely nailed by such storms. It's so weird to hear about ice and power outages everywhere BUT here.

In my area of Cambridge, there are no phone/hydro polls and lines.  They're all buried.

We lost power for almost an hour Sunday morning, but have been fine since.  Some places here in Cambridge were blasted hard with freezing rain.

Being on the north shore of Superior, we get a lot of snow too. This year the snow's come early; my backyard has more than two feet of snow already in the untouched areas. Snowbanks are already in mid-winter form.

But, ice storms are rare here. We might get a bit of freezing rain from time to time, but it's mild.

We have rooms atop the garage, and without  a small heater it's still uncomfortable to sleep there (unless one uses several heavy blankets).  But now, with the power still out, it's become impossible to be there.  In fact, he whole house feels like an ice chest -- still no power restored since late Saturday morning!  AccordIng to official (radio) news, it may not be back until 72 hours, which would make it either late tonight or early tomorrow.

Please hydro, hurry up!

Man hockeyfan1, hope you get power and heat back soon!

My sister is in Etobicoke and got hers back this morning after being out since Saturday night. We lost power several times Saturday night into the morning for about 20 to 30 minutes at a time, again yesterday morning for an hour and yesterday evening for about 30 mins. Haven't lost it since then. Hope it stays!

To everyone else without power, keep warm and stay safe!

Thank you AlmosGirl! :)  In fact,  the power has final returned just now!  Ah, bliss!  It won't be long now to get all warmed up, thank God for that.

(Had my cousin & cousin-in-law from outside Toronto bring us some nice hot beverages & soup from Tim Horton's around noon).

For all those of you still without power, try to keep as warm as you can,  and if possible, order some take-out food or have someone (a relative) help with that.  Every little bit counts.

I live in the Hespeler part of Cambridge.  My neighbours aren't so lucky it seems:

Cambridge North Dumfries now says 600 customers are without power. That's down from 1000. But they say full restoration is not expected until Saturday.

Many communities in Ontario, and even some parts of the GTA, (such as Scarborough), may not have their power restored until the weekend.  Feel terrible for those folks.

Props to the Manitoba Hydro lineman that went to Toronto to help out with the power outages, 42 of them left Xmas eve to lend a hand.

Windchill warning of -53 here today at work, and back home it is currently -3 :/

A big thank you to them from an Ontarian & Torontonian!

I'll pass that along to a few of them, i know some of them from growing up in Gillam and my bosses son is a lineman and is currently in Toronto helping out. Kudos to them, I could never do a linemans job, I like my feet on the ground, which is why I became a power electrician (only have to work at heights once in a blue moon) and station operator lol

A balmy -1 here for the next 24 hours before another donkey punch from mother nature on Monday. Winter 2014 is only 8 days old but it feels like it's been 8 weeks...#imapansy

Who knows what Mother Nature has in store for us the rest of the winter.  I'm just praying for no more ice storms.  At least, the cold weather outside we can cope, but anything worse than that such as what happened in Toronto a week ago, is something no one wants.

There are still approximately 15,000 people without power.  Hopefully, beforu New Year,  it'll be restored.

Yeah when compared to what the people without power have been going through my whining seems pretty silly. Thanks for making me feel this big.

C'mon MF, I didn't mean it that way.  :( :)  :)

Know what, I'm beginning to hate winter...no fun when it's bone-chilling so early on the calendar.  It's usually January/February weather that brings the mercury really down. But an ice storm at the holidays??!!  Egads!

Here in Saskatoon we normally average 16 days per winter where the temp goes below -30.  Well today is the 13th time in this month we have achieved that feat.  I have never seen it so cold so early.  We are averaging 6 degrees colder than normal this month.
