The Trade Deadline

bustaheims said:
This is shaping up to be one sleeper of a trade deadline. It's going to be all 4th liners and depth defencemen.

To burn up a vacation day or not...that is the question.  :-\

No kidding... Not sure if you heard Burke today but he said things are kind of sleepy right now.... Not enough sellers and those who are selling are asking crazy prices.

A number of GMs have said the same things. 20 or so teams that think they're still in it, all asking about the same handful of players. Sellers thinking they can drive up the price because of it. None of it's surprising (or, really, unprecedented), but, unless there's a little more separation created in the next 2 weeks, trade deadline day is probably going to be pretty boring.

If memory serves, weren't we also expecting a slow deadline day this time last year  - for the opposite reason? I recall, oodles of trades by this time last year and a bunch of folks thinking there wouldn't be anybody left by the deadline... My, what a difference.

I wonder if this sort of situation, and perhaps an injury or two to the right players on the right team, might make it possible to unload a guy like Komisarek without the leafs paying much of a price?

Probably not. Even with the higher prices, teams will really value the cap space and flexibility that picking up a rental provides.

I can't predict Burke.  If he dealt Komisarek, MacArther, and Jeff Finger for Ovechkin I wouldn't be surprised.  If anyone can pull rabbits out of his hat, it's Brian Burke.  Of course a 2nd line of Ovechkin/Grabs/Kulemin still wouldn't solve the need for a #1 center!

Certainly, but I don't think Rutherford deals with if it isn't for full value.

Probably not, unless he knows there's no chance at re-signing him.

Or, you know, maybe not.

DarrenDreger: Because of interest in resigning him and now injury, Tuomo Ruutu is no longer a trade option.

DarrenDreger: Zidlicky has said he would waive to go to NJD, however, Wild hasn't asked him to...yet, and may not trade him until the summer says source.

TBLightning: Kubina being held off the ice to protect the team's interests. Has been asked for teams he would be willing to move to.

@RealKyper: #SNtrade. Told Plekanec has never been approached to lift his no move clause and hasn't even given a minute thought of leaving #Canadiens.
