The whole shootin' match: Kings vs Devils

wonder if there's a costume shop somewhere near the Staples Centre. Bernier might wanna find a disguise.

lol I guess if you need a costume LA is the place to be.

I didn't think the hit was that bad though, bad but not brutal. I hope the 5 minute call is due to injury? I'm not sure of the rule. Other than hitting his face on the edge of the boards I thought it was a 2 minute boarding based on viciousness.

Well, a great series blown away by an eenie meenie miney moe call.

It was a clear cut boarding major for goodness sakes. If they won't call that you may as well let the players carry chainsaws.

Well, they didn't call the one on Stoll, so I guess you're saying bring on the chainsaws.

So what's the rule, other than viciousness, that makes it 5 instead of 2? Does injury play a role?

41.3 Major Penalty ? The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a major penalty, based on the degree of violence of the impact with the boards, to a player guilty of boarding an opponent.

So, in a roundabout way, yes, injury can play a role.

Thank you!

Even Cherry is agreeing with the call.

Yup, still, if they called Stoll for the 2, Bernier never happens.

Ok, but you're kind of arguing two blown calls in a vacuum there.

:)  I'm not sure what that means.

Well, 'what if' as an isolated pov only really gets you so far, the reality is that even if you're right about that it doesn't change a whole lot in the long run, overall.

...and the Kings do it again.

Violence/hitting from behind are the factors.

and there was blood all over the freakin' ice....and I'm honestly surprised Scuderi is back, the way he tried to get back up and put his head back down, I thought he'd have a concussion.

Drawing blood may have been factor as well. I think Scuderi's face got cut when it was slammed into the glass. It's evidence the head sustained an injury.

As well, as the broadcast pointed out, historically Scuderi hasn't been one to stay down or fake an injury. A player like him is more likely to get the benefit of any doubt.

When the call was made, I didn't have a big problem with it. I also felt Stoll deserved a minor. I'm a little sorry now only in terms of it being tough for the Devils to get back into it and make a game of it (not that I'm pulling for the Devils - I'd just like to see an exciting game).

Yup, with Busta clarifying the rule I don't have a problem with it either. I'll buy that he hit the boards violently.

I agree 100%, I don't like a lot of things more than an exciting playoff game. Watching the Kings pound the Devils.....nah.

Not that I mind the Devil's getting pounded, I am a Leaf fan after all. :)
