The whole shootin' match: Kings vs Devils

The CBC is great. Go on and on and on about how Kovalchuk is struggling and then briefly mention that Parise and Elias haven't shown up either. They did that 3-4 times throughout the night.

Also, Marty flaming out in 4 may cause him to peremptorily retire.  So it'll be down to TO and NJ for Luongo.

I actually see it the other way. Tonight was Marty's first questionable performance of the Finals and only the 2nd time he's allowed more than 3 goals in these playoffs. I think making it this far and not walking away with a championship will encourage him to come back for another year.

Could be one of the most dominating playoff performances of the modern era... On their way to doing this in just 18 games.

Does it really count as dominating if they're outscoring their opponents by 1.4 goals a game?

Yeah, Parise too, overall it likely gives a pretty positive post impression.

That would translate to a +115 goal differential in the regular season - close to double what the league leading differential was this season.

Sure, because even the best team is going to lose 20-25 games a year which will drag a goal differential down. A team could have a perfect season at +82 but you'd be hard pressed to say they dominated a single game.

I suppose, though, that really would depend on their play on the ice. Based on what I've seen, the Kings have pretty much been in control for most of the games they've played. They've been a pretty dominant defensive team.

I personally wouldn't call a one goal game dominating regardless. Unless, I guess it was one of those Devils games where they gave up 6 shots. As is the Kings have only outshot their opponents by 3 a game.

Well, when you're allowing less than 1.5 goals per game, that's not just goaltending. That's exceptional defensive play to the point of dominance.

Where are we with hits and offensive zone puck possession and other stuff like that? Seems the Kings are killing it.

Well, not that a game of warring adjectives is ever productive but again I'd save that label for a team that just didn't give a team opportunities. As per the shot totals(and what I've seen) that hasn't been the case. The Kings have won but the other team has almost always been in it.

I see it just the opposite -- short summer, another year of slogging through the season in crappy Newark, no Parise  :) to lead the skaters, bankruptcy and bounced paychex, Kovalchuk making way more dough and doesn't even show up for the big games, LouLam's shiny head -- no, there are many many reasons for Marty to call it a pizza and head off into the setting sun.

The Kings are at 37.1 hits a game. The Devils are at 30.7(the Rags were at 33.2). The Kings are sub 50% in the faceoff circle and have a 10% PP.

I hope that somebody is on their toes out there and, when LA sweeps it on Weds, hands out SC champion crowns to the winners instead of the usual ballcaps.  That would be eternally cool.

So by in large destroying the Devils 5 on 5 and presumably on the PK too. I'm more interested to see vs. all their opponents when this is all said and done though.

1. The phrase is "by and large"
2. The Kings' 5 on 5 ratio is 1.68, the Devils are at 1.33. So "destruction" ain't what it used to be.
