Tlusty re-ups in Carolina

Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - The Carolina Hurricanes signed forward Jiri Tlusty to a two-year contract on Tuesday worth $3.2 million.

The deal will pay Tlusty $1.5 million next season and $1.7 million in 2013-14.

Tlusty posted career highs in games played (79), goals (17), assists (19) and points (36) in 2011-12.

"Jiri had a very good season and showed that he can contribute as a top-end NHL forward," Hurricanes president and general manager Jim Rutherford said. "He should continue to be an important part of the Hurricanes coming off of his career year."

The 24-year-old Tlusty has 34 goals and 40 assists in 228 career NHL games with Carolina and Toronto. The Maple Leafs drafted Tlusty with the 13th overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Good for Jiri.  He looks like he'll be sticking in the league.

It is good to see. Perhaps he builds off last year and becomes a solid top-six, but I think it's more likely he's a third liner that can shift up if need be.

He reminds me of Fredrik Modin, very slow in his development but he can actually be a verid solid contributor. Requires a lot of patience, which is impossible to get in market/organization such as Toronto. Good for him that Carolina did shouw that patience. For 1.5M they can get 20 goals scorer.

On a line with Eric Staal and Alex Semin.

The Bozak of Carolina?

In truth, I was always disappointed by his trade. I think he'd be a useful depth player. I liked his style of play. Just about as bad as the Steen trade in my opinion.

I'd rather have him than a good chunk of the Leafs' current forwards.  Good upside, good at both ends of the ice.  I hope he does well.

Losing Steen was a shame, because he's gone on to become a workhorse kind of player and that's something we've needed for years.

If there's a positive to take away from this, it's that Leaf scouting is more successful at drafting than given credit for.

Was gonna post about Steen in the Halak thread but I'll do it here. I honestly think that it was the worst trade made since the Toskala one. Friggin Lee Stempniak in return...wow.

Been talking to my buddy who is an avid Blues fan and they absolutely love him there. He was injured for half of last season but they definitely see him as being part of something special that they're building.

was the scout that picked Pogge over Rask fired ?
The Leafs made the same bad decision as the Senators did with Redden and Chara. Went with the "good ol' Canadian" over the European who was clearly better.

that was the GM.  But at the time Pogge was doing great lead team canada to gold.  If anything it was the coach with the Marlies that ruined Pogge and should be fired.

Or, you know, no one "ruined" Pogge, and, it was more that, once he wasn't playing behind a very very strong team like he had with Team Canada and with the Calgary Hitmen, he was exposed and shown to just not be that good.

The coach benched him even though his numbers were about the same as the other goalie.  He wasn't exposed to be poor.
