TOP 5 PICK!!!

I wouldn't put it past the brass in Edmonton to take Yakupov and then ship out some other players for help on their back-end. Even it doesn't make any sense they'll probably come up with some crazy plan.

Why wouldn't taking Yakupov at #1 and then filling their other needs by trade make sense?

They won't be trading any of the young guys ,so who have they got to trade?

mynhldraft.com's post lottery mock. (1-10.)

1. EDM: Yakupov
2. CMB: Grigorenko
3. MTL: Galchenyuk
4. NYI: Murray
5. TOR: Forsberg
6. ANA: Dumba
7. MIN Rielly
8. CAR: Faska
9. WPG: Trouba
10. TPA: Reinhart

If 1, 2, 3  go like this, there may be some unhappy Leaf fans but Forsberg does seem pretty good too and like I've said, man'o'man I'd love Dumba to pair with Gardiner.

The structure of their team would be built around 3 scoring wingers and 1 undersized center (albeit all 4 will probably end up being stars), while being undersized down the middle and missing a back-end. Not saying it would be the wrong plan, but it just seems as if people are expecting their thought process to be: we have enough firepower up front, we need help in other areas.

I wouldn't put it past them, necessarily, but if they're at all impatient to make some significant improvement shortly I don't know that they have a ton of other players they could turn into a big improvement on their back-end.

If, on the other hand, they basically just threw it out there that Yakupov could be had by whatever team offered them the best collection of defenders/defensive prospects? I think they could take down a big haul.

I thought the idea was that they might trade one of the other wingers for the defensive help ...

Yeah Glen Sather is the first GM I thought of that might put throw that kind of package their way.

Id be surprised if they traded Hall or Eberle, but who knows what the future holds.

I really want Forsberg or Galchenyuk.

I stand by this.  Obviously if neither are there at 5 that means Murray or Grigorenko are there and I'm okay with that.

Forsberg seems like he could have one of those real long, impactful careers like an Alfredsson.

Same here. I'd be very disappointed if they went with someone other than Galchenyuk/Grigorenko/Forsberg if one of them was still available.

Only way that happens is if someone gets stupid and doesn't take Murray... and with Snow drafting right ahead of us, well that just might happen.

If Galchenyuk is not available then I am all for continuing the legacy of great Swedes in TO: Salming - Sundin - Forsberg.
That kid played among the men and scored 17 points, he is going to be tough.

Columbus GM Howson was in Toronto yesterday (on draft lottery day).  Meeting with Burke???  Howson is still the GM, and depends on whether the Blue Jacket administration retains him or fires him, the Nash saga et al., will continue through well into the off-season.

"You always want to control the draft," said Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson, who's traveling to Toronto this morning. "It means a lot. It's not going to be the end of the world if we don't get it. There are good players there; we just have to make sure we get the right one. "But it'll be disappointing if we don't get it."

Like the Oilers, will the Blue Jackets use their options?  And the Leafs?  Where does this leave the Maple Leafs considering that the teams above them in the lottery may decide to either trade their pick(s), or use them to acquire others.

It's going to get interesting...

If all 3 C's are gone, I'd be happy with Murray too.

I feel the same way about Dumba who some say because of his physicality is the better guy. Again, I don't want to sound like a broken record but in my very limited knowledge, Dumba strikes as the perfect top-paring defenceman for Gardiner.
