TOP 5 PICK!!!

I think this is what I'd like to have.  Galchenyuk is a couple feet taller than Yakupov, and maybe the difference in skill is big, maybe not, but I like the guy with a bit more size.  I think Taylor Hall is a good comparable to Yakupov, as I've read they sort of play similar games, and that has led to some injury concerns already for Hall in his reckless kind of game.

I guess I just want a bigger bodied C.

A couple feet , eh?  :P

I wouldn't be surprised to see Edmonton take Yakupov. They can always make a trade for a defenceman, push hard for a Suter in FA or try to acquire a top flight goaltender. It's hard not to salivate over a top 6 that includes Hall, Nugent-Hopkins, Eberle and Yakupov.

Yeah, it wouldn't knock me out but I get the sense there's some impatience in Edmonton and as a result I don't think I put much stock in the idea that they're all that interested in waiting a few years for Yakupov to be an impact player to say nothing of the 5-6 years it usually takes for a defenseman to develop.

I don't think they value the pick that much. It's why I think a good team could easily build a trade around giving Edmonton what they'd hopefully get from their draft pick in a defenseman who already is contributing at a high level in the NHL.

That's the way I'd lean too, potvin. Keep the assets; the Leafs are going to get a good player at 5th.

I think so too... However, if the price for #1 is only Schenn + #5, I think it's a no-brainer.

Whoops! You know what I meant!  Off to the editing machine.

If edm wants or needs a now type of  defenceman then we should offer them schenn, and  komi plus a second for there first.

you forgot to add our #5 pick AND change Komi to Colborne or something.  Then MAYBEEEE they would think about it.

I wonder how interested Anaheim is in "rebuilding" as opposed to "retooling." Does the #5 pick get you 60/70% of the way to Ryan or 50% of the way to Getzlaf?

Makes sense. The Leafs get the draft pick they want and Edmonton positions themselves terrifically to draft Nathan MacKinnon.

I think our best bet is to keep the #5 (as well as all of our prospects) and go pretty hard for Schultz and Parise in UFA.

Barring some pretty huge UFA success, I don't see this team in the playoffs next year either, so we may as well give Kadri/Colborne/Blacker et al some time to prove what they can do in the NHL/AHL.

I'd rather the worst case scenario be that we finish last with our pick next year as well as our cupboards full, than in 9th with an "improved" roster from trading our #5 and Colborne or whoever.

Isn't the 2013 draft supposed to feature the "next superstar" in the same mold as Crosby?  At least those are the rumblings I've heard.

I don't know about Edmontons plans but I'd take Yakupov if I were them barring a truly fantastic offer.

You don't hear much about teams complaining they have too many good players, regardless of what position they play.

Why does everyone want a mediocre Nash and his albatross contract?

Because, he's a big sparkly name . . . and the type of player the Leafs need, just not at that price tag and acquisition cost.

Wondering about Shane Doan. He is a big player who hits and has leadership skills. I know he is older but he would be a nice fit. Anyone else?

Because hopefully he wants to come to TO and is got only about 3 teams that he will go to.
