Fixed that for you, but I think I know what you're saying, market value.

Nah. $2.5M is about right for a defensively responsible 3rd line centre who is one of the best faceoff guys in the league.

3 mil+ 3rd liners just isn't a good idea... Now watch us go out and get another couple.  ::)

I don't know how true that is. The cap is 70 million this year. That means you could pay your first line an average of 6.5 million each, your 2nd line an average of 4 million each, your third line an average of 3 million each and your 4th line an average of 2 million each and still have 25 million for goaltending/defense.

So long as they're good players...it won't hurt you.

They'd most certainly have to be.

My expectations are ultra low for us in free agency. That said, I wouldn't mind us snagging Bryan Allen or Scott Hannan tomorrow.

Veteran D would be good - picking up something like Hannan along with Prust/Ott would be a decent haul.

Based on the way mid-tier guys are getting paid, I'd be pretty content if Burke did next to nothing tomorrow. If he can sign Brodeur to a reasonable contract, then cool. Outside of that . . . considering Parise and Suter are extreme longshots, I'm not sure there's anything out there that's enough of an upgrade to players in the system to warrant the cap commitment they'd come with for this upcoming season and future seasons.

I'm assuming the cap commitment would be more then palatable for those guys. If not, well sure... Pass.

Yeah, but you could say that about any player making any amount of money. 3 million dollars may very well be the proportionate worth of a 3rd liner these days.

With Wideman getting $5.25M for 5 years, I'm pretty sure it won't be. If I'm Burke, outside of guys like Parise or Suter, who are unlikely targets, I'm not sure there's anyone out there I'd want to commit to for more than 1 season.

So what are your plans for the Winter then? I'm thinking of getting really into Cricket.

Sid money? Nah... More than Brad Richards got what, 60 mil? I say 80-85? for Parise.

Crosby almost certainly left money on the table though. If he'd looked to maximize his AAV or term he probably could have gotten 20-30 percent more than he got. If someone offered Parise something like 12 years and a AAV of 8.5 it wouldn't stun me.

The one UFA that I haven't seen mentioned a lot that could be an interesting addition to the Leafs 3rd/4th lines is Jordin Tootoo. He seems to have toned down the antics a little over the last few seasons, and he could provide some of physicality the Leafs are looking for.
