I'm considering experimenting with hibernation.

We'll be sure to wake you when the Leafs are competitive. You know, provided we find the time in between the Morlock raids.

I'm assuming the cap commitment would be more then palatable for those guys. If not, well sure... Pass.

With Wideman getting $5.25M for 5 years, I'm pretty sure it won't be. If I'm Burke, outside of guys like Parise or Suter, who are unlikely targets, I'm not sure there's anyone out there I'd want to commit to for more than 1 season.

You did not just use thew Wideman signing as an exapmle for all other GMs to follow did you?  :o  :P Seriously though, I'd take Allen or Hannan for a couple of years at or around what they made last year.

I better wake up in a dark room and the first words I hear better be "Welcome to the world of tomorrow!"

I completely forgot it was the start of the free agency period tomorrow.

Must be a combo of me not being all that interested compared to previous years and the distractions from the Schultz Sweepstakes.

Plus, probably also the fact that Toronto isn't likely a choice destination for any notable free agents these days, anyway.

Wow. Way to take the wind out of my sails.

Forget it. I'm not even watching and may actually pay attention to the family members coming over for a bbq at my place tomorrow.

Well, probably not, but still.

The one UFA that I haven't seen mentioned a lot that could be an interesting addition to the Leafs 3rd/4th lines is Jordin Tootoo. He seems to have toned down the antics a little over the last few seasons, and he could provide some of physicality the Leafs are looking for.

I agree.  He would be a good stop gap until Broll, Biggs, etc.

5 years younger than Asham.

Not news or anything but this is from Stu Hackel over at SI.com:

On NHL Home Ice Satellite radio, they?ve reported that Parise has decided to go to market and he?s seeking a $12 million signing bonus which would be guaranteed even if there is a lockout in September.

I wonder how many guys are going to be looking for something similar.

News isn't really coming in Fast and Furious, is it? Unless, I guess, you'd say news is coming in like Fast and Furious, which is to say loud and pointless.

A team can promise that but would it be legally binding or even possible for a team to fulfill the request if they wanted to?  If there is no CBA in force and the owners lock out the players?....

Well, at least in part, right? Like I'm guessing that part of the contract would make the payment due before the lockout date.

Although it would be nice to upgrade the choices on the top six, (Grabs, Kessel, Lupul, Van Riemsdyk, MacArthur, Bozak, Connolly, Kadri)  I think this free-agent period would be better suited to upgrade the bottom six.  Especially the forwards to use on the penalty-kill.  (Dupuis, Crabb, Lambardi, Kulemin, Connolly)

My expectations are ultra low for us in free agency. That said, I wouldn't mind us snagging Bryan Allen or Scott Hannan tomorrow.

Veteran D would be good - picking up something like Hannan along with Prust/Ott would be a decent haul.

This is solid thinking here.  We need a stay-at-home veteran defenseman baddily.  Someone who can actually play, that is.

God, I hope not.

I don't see the risk with taking on Brodeur.  It takes the pressure off of Reimer & Scrivens to be a starter now, and will let the Leafs see if either are capable of taking the reigns in 1-2 years.

Well, the risk is that you sign Brodeur to a relatively big money 2 year deal and he doesn't provide #1 quality goaltending at all.
