Something strange happened at the Quarter-Final Game played at the Centre Bell in Montreal. No, it wasn't the well-deserved boos that rained down on Team Canada after trailing 2-1 in a lethargic first period. Nor was it that oh-so-weird Czech opening goal that bounced off the Slovak referee's helmet and onto the arm of Canada's defenceman Kase Clague past a stunned Connor Ingram. None of that.
Give up? It was the announced crowd of 10,000 in the seats. Many of Team Canada's players were surprised at the non- sellout, but, to make amends, the crowd got louder and more boisterous as Canada started racking up the lead, much to the satisfaction of the Canadian players.
Canada took the lead on a pair of goals by Julien Gauthier, Mitchell Stephens, Blake Speers, and Thomas Chabot, who has been a stalwart on the defence and all-around, particularly with the absence of the concussed Philippe Myers.
The Canadians trio of Pierre-Luc Dubois, Nicholas Roy, and Julien Gauthier, --also known as the "Quebec Line" or "The Monstrous Line" (for the fact that these three comprise Team Canada's biggest forwards) and placed together by coach DuCharme for the first time in this game, -- were instrumental in bringing some tempo and momentum to Canada's offence, as they capitalized well in the offensive zone.
Final score was 5-3 Canada over the Czech Republic.
Team Canada will now play Team Sweden in Wednesday's Semi-Final matchup.
