I know he had a rough season and everything, but seeing that game sure does make it suck that Burke couldn't figure out a deal for Richards when he was available. Would have been a perfect fit here I think.

IIRC, Holmgren preferred to move Richards to the west and when he was able to get the return he did from the Kings he didn't even go back to Burke who had Kulemin and Kadri on the table.

Flyers asked for Kadri and Kulemin from the Leafs for Mike Richards. Toronto said they would consider it, but never heard back from Phi.

That sort of makes it seem possible, doesn't it?

Why? It's not like the tweet said "Haha, the Canucks sux and we're totally going to win". It was a joke about how fans in Canada don't tend to like the Canucks as a team. If the Rangers win tonight and someone says "We did this for Maple Leafs fans" I think I'd manage to hold on to my monocle.

Because they were being cocky and were bragging.  It's not a big deal, I think it would be a little embarrassing, and it doesn't need this much analysis.

The way I remember it was Holmgren made calls like that to a few teams, asking for specific players for Richards and when a western team gave him the value he was looking for, he took it.

I don't think it was as simple as the Leafs saying yes when they were asked for those players and it would have been a done deal.

Well, I think at the very least it's safe to say that we don't have a definitive knowledge of how it went down so saying for sure that it was or wasn't possible is probably a bit of a reach.

No I don't think so either. And even at time it would have been very hard to part with Kulemin considering the season he was coming off of. All I'm saying is that Richards was available, the Leafs had a shot, but couldn't get it done. Too bad. A guy like him might not be available again for a long time.

...and, if the Canucks win, the joke's on L.A.!

If Bob Cole had made the call Hughson did on the Kings goal he'd be torn to pieces by his critics.

I honestly had no idea the goal was even scored until about 30 seconds after.

I wasn't sure myself but the fact that the Kings were celebrating should have at the very least given Hughson pause as he was yelling about what a great save got made.
