2011-2012 NHL Thread

The people at EA Sports correctly predicted the 2010-2011 winners/competitors/losers of that season's final team standings, including playoffs and Stanley Cup finalists.

Now, EA Sports does their simulation for this season, with some surprises....namely, the Leafs squeaking into the playoffs... and, the Penguins vs Black Hawks for the Cup Final (with Pittsburgh the clear winner).  They also have Ovechkin pegged to win the Hart Trophy, etc., etc.,

Have a look.....  http://www.ea.com/nhl/blog/nhl-12-season-simulation

Heh, Leafs beat out Habs for 8th and lose to the Caps in 7 games in the first round.

I could live with that as a resolution to the season!

Jammy Jagr got an assist in his first game with Philly.  It gives him 1600 points on his career.  I didn't realize he was 1 point away from that mark.

'Spoilt' celebration.  Jagr & the Flyers beat Boston 2-1.  Truth is, the Bruins did not have their minds entirely on the game, stemming from such an emotional banner-raising celebration, having invited the 1972 Stanley Cup-winning Boston Bruins team of that era, all the surviving members, which included the likes of Bobby
Orr, Johnny Bucyk, et al.  The entire ceremony took half-an-hour or so.

The games in europe are on TSN (NYR v. LA) and TSN2 (BUF v. ANA) now.

TSN brought the B squad for hosting, Rod Smith and Craig Button.

They may have sent the teams over to open the season but they forgot the excitement. Yawn watching Rangers and Ducks today.

So Vokoun doesn't even end up starting the first game for Washington.  Neuvirth in tonight.

That was a bit odd, especially since Boudreau anointed Vokoun the starter pretty much right when they signed him.

Exploring the early season statistics and surprisely, I find Raycroft at the bottom of the save percentage list at a hefty .867.

Why did this guy get another contract?  It makes no sense to me.

Back to back seasons of .910/.911 SV% as a backup is probably why.

I didn't even realize he was still in the NHL.  :P

A poor start?
Justin Faulk
http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id=8475753
3GP
0 shots or points
-6 +/-
plus 5 minors ...

Didn't see much of one game and none of the others so the stats may be 'unlucky' to some extent or not completely reflection on him.

But in the wake of this:
Is Justin Faulk the secret to Carolina?s success this season?

they were pretty high on him sort of like we have liked Gardiner except the Canes were playing him with Pitkanen on the #1 pairing. The guy is only 19. I'm sure he'll make it etc. But they're throwing a lot at him at 19 yrs old.

I don't hate the Canes but 1 point in 3 games ... getting in a hole behind our Leafs ...

Maybe now we'll see Ryan Murphy play a game. 3 games in and he hasn't dressed yet which has not gone over well with a lot of Kitchener Rangers fans.
