2011-2012 NHL Thread

I will say this though - in the two playoffs series he has played in he is 0 for...

I think the East as a whole is going to be much more competitive this season, but with the usual suspects. Washington, Pittsburgh, Philly, Boston, but I also think the Buffalo will be there as well. The other three spots will be hard to pick. If the Rangers start gelling, that will only leave two spots open for the rest.

Agreed - the East looks like it's the stronger Conference this year, but I still think that the bad teams in the East are worse than the bad teams in the West but I guess at the end of the day that doesn't really account for much.

IMO it's all over for everybody once Crosby comes back.

They now have goaltending, I think they are going to be the team to beat in the East this season.

Vokoun looking like the move of the summer.

Just cause I know people will compare the two throughout the year, Varlamov is doing pretty damn well for Colorado.

So is Giggy.

And don't get me started on Brian "Jaroslav" Elliott

They are missing their big summer acquisitions in Carter and Wisniewski, but yeah I'm not so sure those two can save them.

They're already 7 points out of a playoff spot. Could easily be 10 before Carter gets back. I know it's a long season and all, but, it's just that much more that they have to make up. If they fall 10+ points back, they might be as good as done before the end of October.

coachrw63: Impressive Torts! U just set a new presser record at 16 secs. I'm going to break that record!

Haha... Good for RW.

Interesting that team that landed biggest name free agent of last summer - one B. Richards - has NHL's worst offence.

Interesting and slightly disturbing... I drafted Gaborik in my pool.

Young Lidstrom idolized Salming
Wing records 1,500th game

The above is just a fyi for Leafs fans.

And I've always admired Lidstrom and don't mean any knock on his abilities with what I'm about to say.

I went to look at Lidstrom's milestones:
http://www.nhl.com/ice/careerstats.htm?fetchKey=20122ALLDAHALL&sort=goals&viewName=careerLeadersAllSeasons

I noticed he's 9th all time in dman goal scoring, 15 goals behind Bobby Orr.

Then I noticed Orr scored 15 more goals in 657 games than Lidstrom has in 1500 games. It struck me as mind numbing disparity. Of the 7 dmen who scored more goals, they all played twice as many games or more than Orr.

It's stuff like this that makes one realize just how good Orr was...
