I guess this ends his chances of ever winning an NHL trophy beyond the stats related ones.  BuhBye "Ovechkin for MVP".  That's gotta hurt his wallet, no?
 
Eh, I probably would have done the same thing if I was him.

Not saying it would be the right thing to do, just that I understand...

I don't think any writers wouldn't vote for him for MVP because he skipped an all-star game. It's an exhibition/publicity stunt. If Kessel, Lupul or Phaneuf decided to skip it I'd be fine with that.
 
I think it's the beginning of the end for the infatuation of Ovie. He's changed to a prima donna in this one season alone. I wonder how
excited the Caps are to be paying him that much for that long.

That being said, yes I'd take him in an instant. I think a new team
would jump start him in a heartbeat.
 
Anyone notice that Seguin is a +34 this year? I'm not the world's biggest believer in the stat but that's impressive all the same.

I wonder how he'd perform in a media fishbowl like Toronto? His overall playoff performance, statistically, seems to indicate he does well in high-pressure games (assuming every playoff game equals a "high-pressure game" ... I have forgotten.)
 
Would someone please explain to me what a suspension has to do with not appearing in an All-Star Game?!

I think I know.  Perhaps in hindsight, Ovie is afraid of becoming "Mr. Irrelevant"!

I think it's a good sign for him but the Bruins are +69 this year...  :-\

But it's even impressive in a team context. It's the highest on the team by a fair margin while Seguin is 6th in TOI amongst their forwards. Krejci, Horton and Lucic combine to be a +6.

For whatever reason, Boston is scoring a ton of goals while he's on and not giving up many.

Dunno, Ian White is +27 or something ( and was a bad minus player in Calgary). It all depends on a team.

I'd say it's less impressive in a team context - 6 of the top 10 +/- players in the league are Bruins, and yeah he is +34 to Bergeron's +27, but it's +/-, it's so wonky that it doesn't strike me as that significant.  If I was to not look at the Bruins team, just NHL-wide, it's more impressive to me.

Seguin's line (if this is accurate: http://www2.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/lines/15/) is a +86. That whole line is having a charmed (great) season.

But the team clearly isn't the determining factor here or, again, you wouldn't have other Bruins barely scraping by at even while Seguin's leading the league.

It's less impressive in a team context in the sense that clearly he's not scoring all of those goals himself but you can't look at Boston's forwards and say that the only reason Seguin has the +/- he has is that he's on the Bruins. Otherwise Horton wouldn't be at even.

Detroit's a strange team this season. They are, by far, the best home team in the league - 17 straight home wins, only 3 losses in total, none since the first week of November - but, they're a really mediocre road team - they'll be below .500 on the road unless they pull off a major comeback tonight.
