Back to the Saints... As tremendous of a punishment this is to the Saints, the shoe still hasn't dropped on their players. Apparently, Goodell has gone to the player's union for their recommendation and once he has it, he'll chew on it and then drop the hammer on them too.

I have to be honest, I'm really growing to dislike Goodell. From constantly pushing for the 18 game season to the penalties to Washington and Dallas for doing something that wasn't against the rules to this he comes off as a real autocratic jackass.

I miss Paul Tagliabue, at least I miss saying Paul Tagliabue.

What happened with Washington and Dallas?

Both teams were deemed in violation of some contracts last year (and the really weren't) and Goddell (out of the blue) took 10 mil in cap space away from Dallas and 36 mil. in cap space away from Washington this year.

I'm actually not too familiar with the Dallas/Washington thing either, what were the "violations" they apparently broke?

"...the Cowboys and Redskins took immediate cap hits during the 2010 season that normally would have been spread out over the length of the contracts, giving them an advantage that other NFL owners found unfair."

What both teams did wasn't actually against the CBA. I believe the 'skins and 'boys are allowed to absorb their penalties over 2 years.

Thanks.

I still don't even see how they violated the rules.  Regardless, I've always thought Goodell is a pompous hard-ass.

A snag in the Tebow deal? I say this is devil's work... Sorry, I can say "devil" right?

I think it's the sign of a really strange deal where I don't even know if I want it to go through or not. It doesn't even have much to do with Sanchez, it's basically a question of do I want the next Jets season to be dull or ridiculous?

The Jets were winners with Joe Namath... Maybe they'll have some luck with Jesus of Nazareth.

And that is supposed to be funny I guess?

On a site that requires tolerance for alternative lifestyles etc. it would also be nice to see a people showing some respect towards the name of God and respect for Christians.

Please let me know when I'm either being disrespectful or breaking a site rule... Until then, have a wonderful day.

Tim Tebow is not Jesus of Nazareth. Now you know.

And Allah shall not be portrayed in cartoons or there will be consequences....

What ever happened to turning the other cheek?

I think people are misinterpreting what I said. I not saying Tebow is Jesus. I implied he had Jesus with him and therefore, the Jets might. Also, it was a play on words. - J. Namath / J. Nazareth. I thought it was cute. Sorry it wasn't an overhead slam winner.

Dave Stanton aside, Tebow has had his detractors.  Apparently, there may be plenty of argument to suggest that the Jets made a wise move in acquiring him.  Here"s why...

Tim Tebow is a better football player than Drew Stanton, a better backup quarterback for the New York Jets, and so the Jets cut a smart deal with the Denver Broncos even after a long day of looking so hopelessly dumb.

The Jets absolutely made the right call by sitting out the chase for Peyton Manning, and not only because Peyton would rather watch Andrew Luck win the Super Bowl in New Orleans than play for Rex Ryan in Eli Manning's backyard. At 25, Sanchez is much younger and healthier than Peyton. He's also a quarterback who won four more playoff games in his first three seasons than Peyton won in his.

Until Tebow was finally acquired Wednesday night, the newly signed Stanton was right behind Sanchez on the depth chart..no doubt that Tebow, already a postseason winner, represents an upgrade on Stanton. If Sanchez goes down for an extended period of time, Tebow's Jets will stand a reasonable chance of making the playoffs, and Stanton's Jets will not.

If Sanchez stays upright, Tebow would offer a dimension off the bench that would complicate things for opposing defenses. Tony Sparano, offensive coordinator, is a founding father of the Wildcat formation, making him the right guy to get the most out of a specialist like Tebow.

That's what Tebow is -- a specialist, the world's most famous role player. There's nothing wrong with that.

Tebow brings a rare physicality to his position. When Sanchez runs toward daylight, it looks like he'd rather be doing almost anything else, even booking a two-week Caribbean cruise with Holmes. Sanchez is athletic enough to escape the pocket and throw accurately on the move, but he's not a threat to do any downfield damage with his feet.

In the end, the Jets are reducing this to a pure football decision. They want to run the ball, and Tebow can run the ball. He can play a little quarterback, maybe a little H-back, as Sparano has the system to accommodate his talents and limitations.

The problem with forming actual sports arguments is there needs to be actual evidence behind them. Drew Stanton has much better accuracy and has very comparable, maybe even superior, rushing numbers. Just saying "Tebow is better than Stanton" is not an argument.

Guess we just have to wait and see about that when Tebow finally takes to the field, to find out if, according to some scribes, it was "a smart deal", or "hopelessly dumb" one.

I know it's not the 2012 thread, but when normally do the fixture schedules get released for the NFL season?
