I'm glad he didn't sign in the NFC. Particularly in the East where my team is that's for sure. That said, 6 years, 100 mil. (50 guaranteed.)  Man, he better have a few pro bowls left in him for the Bill's sake.
Money well worth it just to help erase the idea that no one wants to sign in Buffalo.

WMD !! Williams, Mario and Dareus.

It is looking like one of the better defences in the AFC.

Could stand to add another LB. But with Mario Williams and a healthy Kyle Williams we wont have the weakest pass rush anymore. Figure they'll go O line in the draft now.

Just stay away from DeCastro  :P (he's on my short list.) Though he's likely a reach for you at 10 anyway.

Anyone trying to keep up with Manning? Exhausting. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up. I just don't see Miami. Seems Denver and Tennessee are the front runners with Arizona trailing - Though I think Arizona would be a greatest fit for him. Anyway, I've been thinking about it... Is Manning the greatest free agent of all time - in any sport? If not, who am I missing?

Well, Lebron James comes to mind. Albert Pujols, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Reggie White, Shaq, Kobe Bryant was a Free Agent before ultimately re-signing with the Lakers and so on.

Heck, I mean, Wayne Gretzky was a free agent.

Okay, so just Gretzky then?

Edit: Maybe it's just me but in my mind, Manning is probably the biggest/greatest name of the lot... Maybe even Gretzky when considering how big the NFL is.

I thought he was Cardinals bound but with them picking up Kolb's 7 million dollar option that seems out. San Francisco seems like the best fit to me. Vernon Davis plus Manning...look out.

There is a Colts connection there as Harbaugh used to be the QB for the Colts in the pre-Manning era. Not to mention Davis and Frank Gore seem to fill the target roles that Manning loves to use. If they can get a WR to actually hold onto the ball, a trip to the bay could be very interesting, and it wouldn't involve Raider Nation.

I think it's pretty funny that you'd say that considering the argument you used last year for Kobe vs. Lebron. If you were being ideologically consistent Peyton Manning wouldn't even qualify as the greatest QB named Manning let alone in the same class as guys like Kobe and Gretzky who not only have bucketfuls of championships but also have legitimate arguments as being one of the greatest players in their sports' respective histories.

He's turning 36 and coming off of multiple serious neck surgeries. Let's not lose perspective here.

I never said it was completely about championships (though it's a big part of it.) That being said, to think Eli ranks up there statistically with Payton well, I find equally funny to be frank... and as far as QBs pushing 40 dominating their sport and winning championships are concerned, maybe you've heard of Mr. John Elway?

The 49ers jumping in here late is kind of intriguing. A healthy Manning + their defense could be a scary combo. God, I hope Manning stays in the AFC.

Alright. I didn't say that. I said that using your logic Eli would be superior to Peyton, not that it was correct(psst, it's not).

Elway was good in his superbowl years(coming in 5th and 7th in QB rating those years) but I don't think anyone would say he was dominating the sport. I think most people tend to, correctly, say that Terrell Davis was the dominant offensive force on those teams(which would follow as it's Davis who actually won the MVP in those years).

Regardless, I'm not saying Manning isn't a good free agent. Just that he doesn't compare to guys who were free agents coming off of fantastic seasons and still in the prime years of their careers.

As a result of Manning reportedly choosing the Broncos, whats the #1 football trending topic on Twitter?

Pisses me off to see that PM's only reason why he didn't sign with the 49ers is because he didn't want to play his brother in the playoffs.

What a joke, either you want to win or you don't. Brother smother....you are a professional and its not like it would be the first time that brothers went head to head in the playoffs in the history of sports.

Now that PM is a memory, it also has screwed things up with Alex Smith, he might end up walking to the dolphins of all places just because of his being pissed at 49er management.

A couple of plays away from the superbowl and now we might have to let a couple of nobodys battle it out for the starting job. We just can't get any breaks.

I hope PM plays a couple of games and then has to hang em up. Nothing but trouble his entourage like trip has caused for some teams.

Now to see how much the bronco's overpay him....

Seems pretty speculative to say that's the only reason he didn't sign in San Fran. Denver has been one of the front-runners ever since he left the Colts and by all accounts Elway and Stokely are big reasons why.

Most people when they talk about it say exactly that he didn't want to play against his brother in the playoffs unless it is a superbowl. Thats been widely known for a while now.

There really isn't a comparison between the broncos and the 49ers... One barely made the playoffs and one set NFL records defensively and is pretty solid overall. Throw in the upgrades on offense we made so far if PM wanted to win he should have went to the bay area. I'm willing to bet that elway and company are going to handsomely overpay him. something in the 25-30 mill a season range. Sadly sometimes money talks over winning a championship.
