2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

They never do anything the easy way, do they? Baltimore left seven men on over the last three innings - five of those were left in scoring position.

Another win, another five pitchers used.

There was a stat mentioned last night that Baltimore has outscored the Jays 25-2 in the final 3 innings of their games this year so far.  That is koo-koo nuts.

Could be a wild ninth inning for the Jays, up 4-1, Janssen in for the third straight day, and walked the leadoff man.

Edit: Just as I pressed post, he induced a double play.

Double edit: Wow, just like that the Jays win and sweep the series! :o

Jays will be two games out of first now. Lose five, win three. They will probably win the first against Boston, too.

Of note, I believe we've yet to be below .500 this season. I'm crossing my fingers that trend continues and we'll be in the thick of it for a while...

At least Orioles starter Hammels is taking defeat the right way - blaming the 'man in white'.

But it's true, the man in white was there:

Yup. It clearly has nothing to do with him leaving a bunch of pitches up in the strike zone over the heart of the plate. Nothing at all.

Good start for Morrow, 6.1 IP 1 ER, but had to leave a bit early after taking a hit off his shin.  Is day-to-day with a shin bruise.

Morrow considers himself lucky, speaking of his shin confusion...

?It hurt a lot,? he said after the Blue Jays swept Baltimore with a 4-1 win. ?My foot was numb and it felt like it was swelling up. I guess there?s a nerve in there that it hit it something. But luckily it hit the muscle on the side of my shin. An inch or half an inch over, it could?ve been a different story.
?

Thank goodness!

?I can?t speak on that but they were taking very, very strong hacks on breaking stuff. It?s something I?ve never seen before,? he said.

.....

?Four swings of the bat, really the difference tonight,? Farrell said. ?We had four fastballs over the plate that the guys did a tremendous job with.?

They may have been taking hacks at breaking balls, but the runs were all from Hammel failing to locate his fastball. Man in white indeed.

Lind has now been officially outrighted to AAA, meaning he was at some point placed on outright waivers and he cleared. He's no longer on the 40 man roster.

And he's never seen players take big swings at breaking stuff?  Maybe his breaking stuff was never that good to begin with.

You're talking like Jason Hammel has spent most of his career as a below average, slightly better than replacement level pitcher, but . . . oh, right.

What bearing does that have in terms of him returning to the 40 man roster? Does he have to pass through waivers again to return to the bigs?

I'm wondering the same thing, and honestly, I don't know if anyone in the sports media knows.  There have been no clear reports throughout this whole thing.  Each article just re-states the same vague detail as the next.

I don't believe he does, no, though, as I've said before, the MLB waivers process is a lot more convoluted than the NHL's, so, I'm not 100% sure.
