Apparently Cowen won't be getting a hearing for that hit. So no suspension. Might be the worst non-call by the DOPS I've seen.

Hahaha, no, but seriously, how many games is Cowen getting?

I'd give him minimum 5, or maximum 8.  Even if Datsyuk is not out with a concussion, blatant head hits like this one merit some sort of suspension.

We're pretty impartial on the subject and we seem to be in agreement; I can only imagine how pissed off Wings fans are right now.

If Kadri gets 3 games for inadvertently running over Backstrom, Cowen better be getting games.

I can't help but feel that when it comes to league discipline, the leafs really have been shafted over the last few years.  Taking the pick away because of the Frogren signing or whatever it was seemed insanely unfair for a bunch of reasons I don't feel like getting in to ...

Wasn't Erat regarded as a pretty decent all-around player? Not sure what happened to him.

It was always going to be a bad trade but you would have thought they'd at least get some decent service out of Erat.

I don't want to label the guy, but according to reports this is now the 2nd time he's asked for a trade this year.  He asked to be traded out of Nashville too.

I think the Erat photo attached to the Google blurb about him is hilarious:

It seems to be someone named Carson Kressley and it looks like it was pulled from a Caps blogger's post noting their supposed similarities:

Personally, I don't really see it.

Dang, I realized it was Carson Kressley (though I couldn't remember his name) once I thought about it further.  He was one of the Queer Eye guys.

Caps fans must be extra pissy about this Erat thing given how much McPhee overpaid to get him.

I wonder how long McPhee lasts. Has a GM ever changed coaches as much as he has without getting fired as well?

Maybe David Poile, the last Captials GM.  They've only had 2 GMs in the last 31 years, incredible.

Jim Rutherford in Carolina is pretty close. He's on his 5th coach since taking over as GM of the franchise (though, that includes Maurice is two separate stints with the club). McPhee is on his 6th.

I actually admire the patience of Leonsis to not just unload McPhee at the first sign of trouble, but at some point you can't keep going if McPhee can't find a way to put a winning team together.  I think stability at the GM level is a good thing even if the results aren't quite there.  No telling what a change can do.. could send you into the tank in no time as it did here when Quinn was pushed out and JFJ took over.

That said, if the Caps can't do any damage in the playoffs yet again, things could change in a hurry.
