2013 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

After the ball that ump called earlier in that inning that Matusz thought was a strike, he calls that a strike during Cabrera's at-bat? Brutal.

Was that the one that ended the game? If so that was indeed a brutal call. I also hate that pitch tracker thing Sportsnet has permanently stuck to the screen. It's distracting and looks to be quite inaccurate, imo.

It ended the 8th inning where the Jays had runners on 1st and 3rd.

Ah I thought it was the 9th but yea, same one.

Bautista must have had a heart attack.

Bummer, another loss and another series where they need to win the last game to avert a sweep (I hope I don't have to hear that much more often).

But we know the Jays wouldn't have capitalized anyways.  >:(

Annoying that the Jays are on the opposite side of these 1-run games.

The team is going to have to go on a 7 to 10-game run at some point, but unfortunately I don't have the confidence they can.

I don't know, the last game I watched with Cabrera up in a situation like that he tied the game against the Yankees.  I had some faith in him in that situation, but what can you do.

I know it's early, but at what point does this team become termed as the Marlins team from last year? It has to be entering some people's minds.

As for last nights game. Dickey looked good. That 2nd inning was crazy. Every hit had eyes and found all the holes.

The lack of effective hitting is what really bothers me.  It's also why Gibbons was fired last time. Team was completely inept at the plate.

I don't know if the numbers suggest any direct correlation, plus the hitting coaches aren't the same guys either, but I'm wondering if there is some connection to Gibby's overall plate strategy that is again causing hitters problems.

That and some completely bizarre strike zone calls isn't helping.  That 3rd strike on Melky last night in the 8th was ridiculous.

His last full season with the team (2006) the Jays were one of the best hitting teams in the AL.  3rd in hits, 3rd in 2B, 4th in HR, 3rd in Avg, 4th in OBP, 2nd in SLG, 2nd in OPS

They weren't as high the season before, and I didn't look at the seasons where he didn't manage the full season as I don't know which stats would be his or the other manager.

Umps starting it off again, Morrow should have had a called strike 3, instead the next pitch is a ground rule double.

These are supposedly the best in the world, and he can't even make the same call 3 times in a single at bat. Pitiful. Absolutely pitiful.

Fair enough. I was going by memory which is always a bad idea for me. But the year he was fired was of course a partial year and I clearly recall Gaston and Tenace doing all kinds of good work getting the players hitting again. The knock on Gibby and co. was the batters had no plan at the plate.

It's a tough job, and the frustration is just exacerbated by the Jays poor start.

It's impossible for a human. Technology has made that indisputable.

Don't need technology to see that first pitch was a strike.

And really that's the worst part. We can all see a strike, and technology confirms it. Meanwhile umpires can be as inconsistent, incompetent, BIASED, and stubborn as they want, and there are RULES in place so you can't even dispute it.

It's like a dictatorship for sports.

Would be nice if there was a challenge process.. .teams could have 1-2 per game to check a replay.  Balls and strikes? Sure, since one called the wrong way can swing a game in a different direction.

Who cares about how the umps feel about that.  Historical integrity? Get with the times.

I can't believe Loup is in again about to give up another lead.  let 2 runs in already.  FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuu

Hahaha a triple. Had both batters 0-2.

Given what happened to the Red Sox 2 years ago, maybe this will be another lesson for those who believed the hype...
