2013 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

Where's the logic in conferring with people who were in a worse position to make the call than he was?

Well, the logic is, I suppose, that making the right call isn't necessarily about position. If an Ump, say, has dirt in his eye or something he might not have a great handle on a play whereas another might.

I'd buy that if the league used video, or if they actually made the right call and didn't violate the rules of baseball.

How the bleep does Lyle Overbay manage to get a triple? And is it "old Jays beat up on the new Jays" time again?

Laffey didn't last long at all after giving up 5 walks.

Jays down 4-2 now after leading 2-0. Looks like it might be another long night.

In the AL East, the Yankees were at .500 in May and made the playoffs. O's were ahead of that pace.

Jays with three solo homers.

However, the difference in this game has been 13 Jay strikeouts vs. 10 Yankee walks. Four Yankee runs came in via: a groundout, sac fly, wild pitch and a passed ball. And of course, Rasmus strikes out to end the game with the bases loaded. Sigh.

Did anyone expect anything but from Rasmus there?  :(

I don't know how much longer I can take saying it's still early before realizing I'm fooling myself.  :(

It would be easier to deal with if they were a little closer than 6 games below .500, but what can you do.

I am also a little concerned about Arencibia and Rasmus still being 2-3 in the majors in strikeouts...

Well, you can't win the division in April....

but you can sure as hell lose it.

Something like 6 or 7 playoff teams were at .500 or lower in May last season, so all hope is not lost yet.

I can't say I've personally lost all hope, though I've sure lost all enthusiasm.

This has a snarky answer somewhere that can be said, but I won't do it.  I will say that I did expect other than that, Rasmus has been one of the best offensive players on the team thus far (not saying a lot but still).

This is pretty close to how I feel. My enthusiasm has been replaced by pessimism. I want them to show me they are contenders rather than a frustrating group of individuals.

Yup. Pretty much where I'm at.

Jays blow 3-0 and 4-3 leads, now trail 5-4 going to the bottom of the 8th. Happ pitched well except for one inning - he inexplicably walked the first two batters and gave up a home run. And somehow, Sabathia pitches 8 innings.

Edit: ARGH! Rasmus pinch hits to lead of the 9th, gets ahead 3-0 and STRIKES OUT. AGAIN. >:(

Jays up 2-1 in the 7th, Dickey cruising...and then Overbay hits a 2-run HR.

Why is this happening?

Because the Jays offense struck out 13 times relative to 1 walk.  You cannot win with this garbage hitting style.
