2015-2016 NHL Thread

Well I think we all know Roy would never do something on the ice to draw attention to himself or put himself above the team.

And what's with the nickname? Duchy?? Given the way Duchene is pronounced, couldn't Roy do better than that?

Duch doesn't really come out right...

Neither does Duchy, but maybe it's a little less of an indictment on his character.  8)

Roy pronounces it as Dutchy. Personally I would pronounce that as Douch?.

Maybe Roy should talk to his players before acting like a moron in the media.

Barry Trotz, Gerald Gallant, and Lindy Ruff were named the 3 best coaches by their peers based on a poll conducted by TSN where 27 NHL coaches named their top-3 coaches:

We've talked about how dumb the Jack Adams Award is here before, but I would have hoped actual NHL coaches would have voted for something like this a little more intelligently.

Joel Quennville received one 3rd place vote. That's it. Darryl Sutter didn't receive a single vote. Babcock didn't either. I know, 29th overall, but I'm very surprised that nobody gave him even a 3rd place vote or anything.

It is very difficult for me to express just how much I dislike the Edmonton Oilers. They're the "Rich Kids of Instagram" of the NHL.

Interesting article.  I would think that Dave Hakstol should be a contender for the Jack Adams this year.  The Flyers aren't going to win the cup, but...they've exceeded all expectations by far.

So Crosby for Hart, Letang for Norris?

The difference in point totals will be hard for Crosby to overcome, so Kane probably takes the Hart. Especially for the voters who don't put much thought into these. But Crosby would be my vote for the Hart. Letang would be 2nd to Karlsson in the Norris.

I just wish the Norris trophy was awarded to a player that can actually play quality defense.  A player that plays forward, from a D position, just doesn't do it for me.  >:(

I really want this to be Doughty's year to win the Norris - partly, so we can stop talking about when he'll finally win one, but also because I want to see a more well-rounded defenceman win. Karlsson's offensive numbers are awfully impressive - as are Burns' and Letang's - I'm just not convinced they should be enough for him to win the trophy. I also suspect that Ottawa missing the playoffs will be held against him, regardless of whether or not it should be.

Big day today, who makes playoffs:

Ottawa at Boston
Detroit at NY Rangers
Pittsburgh at Phila.  Phila at NYI on Sunday

I'm hoping for an Ottawa win, & Flyers win on Sunday.  The Red Wings are too good to lose.....Rangers sitting a lot of players.

I really agree with the premise of this, but I'd also like to add that when you are helping put the puck in the other team's net at a rate outpacing most forwards, that's really a good indicator that your defense is doing well.

A Norris winner ought to be someone who drives play the right way and helps finish the job without compromising on keeping the puck out of his own net. Defense is, thankfully, no longer just about standing in front of your net, hitting people, and blocking shots.

Karlsson's only failing stats-wise is his Goals Against rating, which is more a measure of the team he is on (and the goalies they play), than his individual efforts. Doughty has the benefit of better structure, better teammates, better goaltending, but his number still fall shy of Karlsson's.

Karlsson is 1 PPG on a garbage team, in a league where 50 pt seasons from a forward is rare and valuable. That's ridiculous.

If we are on the cusp of being competitive in 2019, guess who we should definitely make a huge UFA splash on? Especially if Ottawa continues to hemorrhage money.

Backing into the playoffs.  Detroit clinches the 3rd spot in the Atlantic despite losing 3-2 to New York.  Boston on the other hand got blown out by Ottawa 6-1 and will only make the playoffs if Philly manages to get 1 point in their last two games.  Pittsburgh is playing for nothing but pride today while the Islanders will be playing to determine whether they play Pittsburgh (with a win) or Florida (with a loss).

Boston gets eliminated after the Flyers beat the Crosby/Letang-less (also a hurt Malkin) Penguins 3-1.

M1. Washington vs. WC2. Philadelphia
M2. Pittsburgh vs. M3. New York Rangers

A1. Florida vs. WC1. New York Islanders
A2. Tampa Bay vs. A3. Detroit
