Trade deadline morning is the worst. You know things are going to happen today, but you also know very little is going to happen until like 1pm.

I think the Leafs are in need of defense prospects/stability more than forwards right now.

To busta's point, if I'm a team trying to one-up my Stanley Cup contending competitors, I don't want my trades to be public until after they can't do anything to one-up my deals.

I think that may be part of it. There's also sellers holding out to see if another team they've been negotiating with beats the best offer on the table if/when they lose out on someone else. As much as I hate to use this term, there's a real domino effect on days like today. A lot of trades are linked to other negotiations.
