I think it should have been called a minor elbowing penalty.

I'm not sure that we should be expecting supplemental discipline on a missed elbowing minor.

I could see a fine, considering it's nowhere near the puck, it was avoidable, etc. It's not suspension worthy, but something to say "this is not okay" might have been appropriate.

Sure, but I'm not sure that's the precedent they want to set with respect to missed minor penalties.

No, but it might be one they want to set for elbows to the head that aren't a result of a legit hockey play.

Aren't all elbowing penalties to the head though?  Like, do you get a penalty for elbow to the chest?  Elbow to the knee?

There's nothing in the rulebook about a dog playing basketbal....or rather there's nothing in the elbowing rule that mentions head contact.

As Nik mentions, there's nothing in the rule that specifically mentions the head. Players could absolutely be penalized for an elbow to the chest, the back, the leg, whatever.

There's also merit to the league specifically targeting elbows to the head as being more significant than other missed penalties. They could easily justify it as any avoidable contact with another player's head requires some form of discipline, whether it's in-game or otherwise.

So Kovalchuk has 7 points in 7 games with the Habs and is averaging over 19 minutes in ice-time. Could be a decent trade chip for them come deadline time.

I'd rather he stays hot, they keep him for the "drive for 9th" and get a crappy draft pick.

Me too. I hope he stays hot and the Habs sign him to a new contract.

Bruins waived Backes to assign him to the AHL. 6M cap hit this year and next.
Nobody is picking him up and they really don't get much cap relief sending him down so that tells me he's totally useless.

Wow. Bruins-Flyers in a shootout and Marchand needs to score to keep it going and he completely skates by the puck while only barely grazing it with his stick. Refs rule it counted as an attempt and Bruins lose.

Without a word of hyperbole, this is the greatest thing that has ever happened.

He?s taken it well too

Oh well, nobody can take away his Starley Cup.

DGB did an epic send-up of Brad's shootout attempt in the Athletic today with various excuses he could use. It's worth checking them all out but to whet the appetite:

Honestly not even sure what people are complaining about, since that was pretty much the most successful shootout the Bruins have had all season.
It's worth reading the whole piece...he was on quite a roll today.

That women's 3-on-3 was the best part of the night. So much skill!

I'd love to see 2 women on each all-star team. Co-ed games. You know the women would be trying hard, it'd bring up the level of play on the men to keep pace, plus it'd be fun.

That could get rather embarrassing for the girls. There arent anywhere near NHL caliber.

Yeah, I'm not so sure, especially in the context of an all-star game.

The level isn't close. I play rec hockey with a team Canada player,  we are Div 4 averaging about 40 years old and never played at high level. She can't outskate me. There have been massive improvement to the women's game but if NHL players dont ease up greatly the girls would look like kids against them.

Easing up... have you watched an All-Star game?

It's not men and women, it'll be men+women against men+women. The fact you play with women you're much better than suggests the NHL'ers could as well.

Also, I'm guessing you can outskate Coyne Schofield too.  8)
