2019-2020 NHL Thread

https://twitter.com/wwright88/status/1275183819050582022

Believe it's paywalled, but an article on EliteProspects.com said some teams felt that he would go undrafted and that he didn't interview well when questioned about his off-ice issues.

You just have to give second-third-fourth-fifth chances to racist bullies or rapists; they just made a mistake and did something dumb when they were young and this shouldn't ruin their lives. Cancel culture goes too far. They should be able to learn from their mistakes and become useful contributing members of society, like police officers or Supreme Court Justices.

Unless they're not white--then throw the book at'em.

Good thing he didn't choose the wrong jersey number or celebrate a goal too much because those are real character issues.

One of the more egregious lies in the people rushing to this guy's defense is describing it as an incident or a mistake. Yes, there was the actual criminal charge but the actual story is that he seemed to make this kid's life pretty tough for years with numerous incidents of racial abuse. That's not a mistake and it's not something that happens by accident. That speaks a lot to what Miller actually is like.

He wrote a letter of apology to the NHL teams that might draft him. He has not apologized to Isaiah in all this time, even after facing criminal charges.

This is a good thread. Scrivens is a smart dude.

Our fundamental mission is to ensure a safe environment - whether in schools, in our community, in hockey rinks, or in the workplace - to be free of bullying and racism," Gutierrez said in the statement, per The Republic. "When we first learned of Mitchell?s story, it would have been easy for us to dismiss him - many teams did. Instead, we felt it was our responsibility to be a part of the solution in a real way - not just saying and doing the right things ourselves but ensuring that others are too.

They are being a part of the solution by doing the right thing and supporting a guy who shows little to no contrition for being racist over a period of years and repeatedly bullying a developmentally delayed child. Burn this franchise to the ground.  They clearly should have taken their 4th round pick away from them as well.

Well, they did inadvertently put this story on blast and now we all know Miller and the orgs that kept adding him to their ranks and extolling his character are pretty much trash.

The depressing thing about this is in the NHL's mad rush to squeeze blood from a stone, I don't think they've left themselves a viable alternative to move the team to if Phoenix collapses again. Short of absolute ruin, I think we'll see this team in Arizona for a while now.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, of all teams, getting the only actual fruit of this labour nourishes my soul.

I always have believe that life gives back what one put out into the universe. "What goes around, comes around".  Without true remorse for his actions this guy will be served.  Seen it a zillion times.

Yeah, no. Trump would have been in jail years ago if this were true.
If Biden wins, Trump will be in Hell.  There is no Apprentice after being the Prez.
