2020-2021 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

I wonder if the Leafs have any plans for their other European players with connections to clubs over there. Guys like Sandin, Liljegren, and Barabanov could all probably benefit from getting in some games with their previous teams. It seems pretty unlikely next season will start on December 1st.

Playing time, sure. But also delicious COVID exposure (Jokerit, Lokomotiv, etc.).

Meanwhile, the LA Kings are sending their prospects to their parent company's other team in the German league, where they will be getting acquainted with future 2nd OA pick and LA King prospect, Tim Stutzle.

Couple of things I didn't know before today...Muzzin got a full NMC on his new deal, and Holl has a NTC on his new deal.

Muzzin only has an NMC for this season (2020-21). It's an NTC for the next two after, and a modified-NTC (10-team no trade list) for the final year.

Holl, being over 27, is eligible for NTCs and has a 10-team no trade list every year of his deal. He is one of the secondary candidates for Seattle's expansion draft, which the NTC does not block.

Muzzin just has a NMC in his first year, so that's basically just expansion draft protection. It's a full NTC in years 2 and 3 before downgrading to a 10-team no trade list in his 4th and final year. All in all, that seems fair. Especially since I think he could have gotten an extra year or some extra salary had he became a free agent.

Holl's NTC just gives him a list of 10 teams he can block so it's fairly limited. It was kinda surprising he got one though yeah.

After what he went through under Babcock? That's a pretty easy concession for management to make.

I guess. Like I said I don't think it's a prohibitive NTC at least but there's a decent chance he might have set a record for least amount of games played before getting a contract with a NTC (granted yes he should have had more GP from 17/18).

Some old timey reminiscing about Mo's drafting

Phaneuf: I remember when he came to training camp ? this just shows what type of person he is and what type of a teammate he was ? me and my wife had him over for supper. And my wife made homemade guacamole for an appetizer. He gets there and we?re sitting down and we?re having a drink, talking before dinner, and it?s his first training camp in the National Hockey League and he?s eating guacamole and chips with me.

Rielly: He wouldn?t stop talking about his wife?s guacamole. He was talking about how great it was. I ate one chip, I said, ?Wow, that?s great, Dion. This is great guacamole.? Then, I stopped, and he called me out. He was like, ?My wife just made all this guacamole and you?re only gonna have one bite. What?s that all about??

Phaneuf: Cut to like a year and a half later, we?re out for supper one time and there was a salad that he ordered and it had avocado on it. And he?s like, ?No avocado please.? And he?s like, ?Hey, I gotta tell you this. I never said anything to you but that first meal you had me over ? I hate avocado. And your wife made guacamole.? I?m like, ?Well, why did you eat it, Morgan? Why didn?t you say something?? He?s like, ?I was just so happy to be there.?

Rielly: I didn?t want to be the kid who came over and didn?t eat what was put on the table. So, I don?t know, I just ate it.

If I take my glasses off I can convince myself we signed Malkin
Haha..Good signing for both sides. Malgin recognizes the market and the Leafs get a cheap alternative. It also sets the mode for other players. I'm betting it's a one way deal.

I don't get why they traded for Malgin or Petan, and still remain confused on why they're still around, but ain't my money, they need players in the AHL, and there's bigger concerns, I guess.

They can be plugged into bottom or top 6 lines. They won?t excel but they won?t burn you either. Maybe get an odd goal.

They're small waterbugs with no physical dimension to their game, that don't kill penalties and aren't skilled enough to play top 6. The leafs need role players, not increasingly blurred photocopies of the first and second lines.

You still need AHL/NHL players. Injuries happen and you can't have enough minimum contracts. Nobody said Malgin is on the 4th line opening night.
